Looking for demilitarized MG42

Here's a look at my little work area I set up for measuring, etc. Also a couple of shots of my BRP receiver I just finished marking up top and bottom Sides will get done tomorrow.

My thoughts on matching things up after you put the rear half together is cut the brp rear before you cut the barrel shroud.

Next I plan to drill the holes for the rail rivets but I probably won't get to that until Tuesday or Wednesday. Any constructive comments are welcome!

Don't think of the rail holes till after everything is welded up and you have welded the front barrel shroud to the rear. Then you put on the outside camming parts (U-shaped) and have all of that lined up then the rails. My thoughts as the rail line up is super important. Make the rail holes fit the rest of the line up and not the other way around.

Check the other builds and ask Brian at brp if needed.

I'm working on the cutouts on the BRP receiver. I hope to have them completed this week but it's a bit of a slow go. I'll post some pics when done.

One thing I plan to do is cut out the areas for the buffer cams on my new receiver and just drop the old ones in place and weld 'em up. Should be easier than trying to place the new cams correctly, etc.

While that's an interesting thought. I would review it as those pads hold the buffer which receives the impact pressure from the bolt going back. Review how hard that it would be to keep the receiver intact and just install the pads before you start cutting and welding.

As it'll be a single action "rifle" do you think it might be too much pressure still? It's not like it'll be firing 1200 rpm which likely would be too much. I plan to be sure the welds are first class.

Hi John. I have to agree with 42 Rocker on this. It's not that hard to do properly. If you can access a lathe with a large enough spindle bore, the reliefs and rear buffer recess are a snap. Then to locate tabs properly I used a jig I made. Would be happy to share it with you. Just cut tabs till they fit in jig, locate in rear section, clamp and plug weld. Then a tiny bit of relief on front of tabs until your happy with lockup. Let me know if your interested. Wally

I've seen a friend that was using a MG42 on a mg3 lafette bump fire at a very high rate of fire. Watched a belt of 50 go away in just a few seconds. I was the one feeding the belt.

Your way could work. I just think that it might be better to do the other way. Your MG42 your call, just think about it first. Lots of stress going on there.
