Latest board troubles

Post by JBaum »

This software has crashed 3 times in the last few days. Then when I complained to the web hosting company that they have a problem, they figured out they actually do have a server problem, and it's with the server this board is on. Thanks a lot, WebHosting Pad (web server company).

They fixed their problem, and fortunately, enough of the board survived and some backups made up the rest, so only a couple of the latest messages may have gone missing. If anything doesn't work, let me know.

I'll be changing web servers, as I believe that them losing the whole board (haven't they heard of a RAID system?) is not acceptable. The change to a new web host will not affect any users, or pictures.

You may need to clear any cookies from your computer, then restart your computer to make it go to the board correctly on the first try. There was a slight change in some internal settings of the board which may not take you to the home screen on the first try. Just click on the little HOME icon where the forums are listed to get there. It will also help to change your bookmark (favorites) to go to this location www.mg42.us/index.php or use this link to make a new bookmark (Firefox lets you right click on the link and make a bookmark out of it. Others browsers may have a similar abililty.

Thanks for your patience.

I've been trying to find my thread "My semi auto MG42 journey" but haven't had any success. I wonder if that was a "victim" of the recent problems?

Could be. The board got restored from Oct. 12 mostly, but some of the files may have been a few days older. I was pleased to just not have the whole thing gone.

I guess that post(s) is gone for good. I'll go on and start a new one.

Yup, we lost about 10 days. Had to use a backup from before the web hosting server started screwing up.

It's a lot more than 10 days. It looks like it's everything posted since the board was restored. I only see posts from 2019.

The board was restored from a few different sources, some of them may have been from last January. It's my guess that when everything matches up, it made it where the board is now. If some of the pieces are missing from last January, maybe it can only work starting at where all the pieces sync, which would be some of the oldest bits that were used. The slow failure of the server caused various parts of different backups to be bad. This is the sewn together carcass that remains.

I'm already checking out a new web server so this won't happen again.

Appreciate it is not your fault, and clearly several members have lost some good stuff. All my additions since April 2019 including 2 new threads are also casualties. In noddy language though, is there any chance of those being recovered or shall I start again?
But yes it is good news that the bulk of this site has been saved. :D :(

l'm still recovering some MG42 related pictures from files saved by KarlT. Other things are most likely gone.
