Re: Is this a good deal on a WW2 Lafette?
Personally I don't believe that one is all German. There are several out there for less money and don't have as many mixed parts. This last batch of lafettes that came in are a very mixed bunch of parts. I would want to have and or see more pics of certain areas.

This is what I got...
http://whatacountry.com/mg42-lafette-ground-tripod.aspx
They said they have some with German marks and range tables. Before Xmas they were running a sale and with shipping it was about $1000 even. Not cheap but I could not find one cheaper anywhere that was not missing something here or there.
The metal was in real nice shape with no rust or damage. The paint finish is very worn, chipped and flaking. The whole thing was coated inside and out with cosmoline and dirt/leaf mulch. In a few places the grease is over an inch thick... so lots of cleaning is needed. But, it was 100% complete and in reasonably good shape.
This is more or less out of the box...

The tripod on 'What a Country' is NOT German WW2. Apart from the black T&E, sight block, fabric pads the obvious idicator that it is post war is the overly wide D-rings. Original German D-rings are slimmer and fit the welded tabs just right.

That said I was able to get a look at the last batch that just hit the shores here in the states.
This last batch that came in was a mix match whatever fits do it and ship it.
So you need to take a long look at everything because not everything is always yugo, sometimes the German parts are showing up mixed in. And vice versa. I've seen some "pure" German lafettes that had yugo parts.
Go to radars website posted above and review what is what.

I never said the WaC Lafette's WERE all German or German. Most of the ones for sale now come from Yugoslavia. The WaC one is sold as such, unlike, perhaps the IMA listing for the same ex Yugo piece.

Shelly,
I wasn't having a go I was just going with the theme of the thread and referencing the fact that the WaC ad is misleading.

The IMA ad may be misleading too...
WaC did say they had German marked ones wtih German data plates in poorer condition than the Serbian marked ones.

He might have another one for sale if you ask him.
