Philadelphia ordinance m42 80% ever built?

Post by othersmightlive »

I've been reading all night but I've got to know if anyone has ever built a semi auto mg42 using a Philadelphia ordinance 80%. From what I read it is difficult, but so is rocket surgery. Anyone ever do it? Pointers?

Did you also check the brp receivers. More is posted on those than the Phil.
Good Luck

Picked a Philly one up on the cheap, couldn't resist. Could make a dummy, but I'd rather not. Let the metal fly!

I too have a new Philly receiver that came with a kit I purchased a while back. I would be interested in how one could machine a good semi-receiver out of it. Harry

Will do. First I've got a few other projects on the table. (Yes, more projects than "Completes") I'll join a 12 step program after just one more  :cross:

I would suggest looking at cutting the Phia-Ord 80% in half from front to rear......doing the machining-out of the inside and then welding the halves together.
It just seems that it would be cheaper/faster to do it this way instead of trying "EDM" due to costs of the work.

Wow I wish I would have thought of that before my unsuccessful attempt.... My 2nd was the BRP and it worked out well

usmc8488,
Isn't to WiseLiteArms that is making an SA42 with a machined rear-section (?).

Correct the Wiselite Generation Two receiver is cut in half and then machined before being welded back together. It has the rails machined in. Harry

Yes I knew they were using it.

My attempt was before WiseLite was doing the Gen 2. After my build I just didn't pay attention how they were using it. I probably could have just gone out and bought one for less $, but, I am a hobbyist who enjoins building. I also have only basic tools, Dremel, two drill presses Tig welder and hand tools.
