Well after 16 month of legal fee's and waiting on BATF I was able to get the MG42 that a friend of mine had found with no paperwork that the family's Grandfather had captured in WWII, I have everything from the Form 6 he used in 1946 to register this gun to the newspaper article when the gun was shipped back to the US ( April 22 1945) and how he captured this MG42. The gun needs cleaned up and the picture look better then the gun is in person, I am soaking it in oil right now to clean the dirt and grim off it from sitting in a barn had mud daubers nest in barrel jacket.

I have the barrel that came with gun and it has matching numbers to the gun, all I am doing to the gun now is get it running and all cleaned up.

Well Merry Christmas and Enjoy the restore. Make sure that you clean and redo the recupurator.

I plan on redoing the recupurator I was planning on getting ahold of Robert E. Naess to talk to him about the gun I think he already know my gun as one of the guys that helped me save this gun been talking, I talked to him over a year ago when I was waiting on getting this paperwork mess cleaned up. I have the gun about 90% cleaned up just taking time cleaning up the little areas and inside the barrel jacket. There are a few little piece that I need to find Spring for the top cover that holds the cover closed and need a WWII era pin that holds the top cover on.

I am glad you went thru the effort to get its records sorted out.
Too often these just get cut up and sold on GunBroker for parts.
I am sure you will enjoy this gun for years to come.

Just a great job - what a magnificent trophy after 16 months of work - worth it I think.
The newspaper article is sensational.

I presuming as you say he filled in a form 6 in 1946 that he didn't stay missing, as noted in the article.
