MG Regler Cyclic Rate Reducer

Post by timarmitage »

I have been having a discussion with someone regarding the Regler. I have taken apart an MG34 but can only go so far as the plate refuses to come off and I have partially removed the grip and I didn't think I would get it back together again as internally its complicated, so not being brave enough I didn't take it any further. However I think the mechanism has an Umschalter. I enclose a photograph of the mechanism and the barrel jacket extension. Tim

Tim
Have you ever taken the gripstick off?? If so I would like to see a picture of the bottom of the receiver. Also a pic of the top of that gripstick.

If not I understand and say Thanks for the pics you are sharing.

Hi will have a go tonight and pull it apart, I have spoken via email with another member who has told me how to get the plate off. So I will attempt this. Tim

Hi I got the grip off but the plate is on so tight that it would need the application of a hammer to do this. However by looking down into it I can see that it is empty. It was much easier than I had imagined as when I was putting it back together when it was lined up just right it went in and seated with a click. Which is why I suppose that they adopted the MG42 as the machining is so tight.

Tim,
Congratulations, I think one of the panels I had needed some rigorous persuasion to part company with the grip frame
Have you found any hidden waffenamts or markings?
Kindest regards,
Jonathan.

Jonathan there seems to be Waffenamt marks on all parts I can see plus some serial numbers. I think these show up in the photographs. If I have time, as I have remembered this week to watch the show, I have come across another cover plate in my collection which I will post.

Tim (42) It's a regler receiver!
Tim (Armitage) Does the speed-change button operate L/S?
Did the grip have a brake-drum inside?
Did the grip have a regler trigger?
Does the receiver have the long barrel-pushrod?
Does the receiver have any of the components in the rear threaded hole?
We wish we could own it.....congratulations!.............Phil

Hi as far as I can make out, it is as page 99 vol 1 with an Umschalter. I have poked a screwdriver into the middle of the cover and I cannot feel any parts in there as page 97. Logically I would feel the clockwork mechanism. I think its just one of the uncommon ones that had the mechanism at one time but this was subsequently taken out. The other cover I have photographed is just one from my collection and not the actual one on the gun. Tim

Hello,
I agree its the Umschalter. Tim I spotted your safety lever is stamped with the rare 5A code.
I luckily have 3 early ones bsw 37 and 38 plus a Mauser 39, all have these early features and all are sadly empty.
I believe only the earliest of the production third variants 1936/7/8? left the factory with adjustable rate of fire parts.
But clearly until 1939 may be early 1940? the receivers were capable of housing these parts but weren't actually fitted.
Jonathan.

Have some pics of my reciver vs a regular reciver. Mine does also have its internals taken away or never been mounted.
