Now that is art, I find your Mg08 far more beautiful than any Impressionist painting. Even with its damage, it only adds to the piece, especially as we are closing in on the 100th anniversary of opening day, August 4, 1914 of military action.

Re: MG 08 FROM BATTLEFIELD
Looking at the rivet holes Mark I would suggest the barrel box has been broken off or removed, the muzzle retaining bit is still there at the top end of the sled base.

Re: MG 08 FROM BATTLEFIELD
I just saw a MG08 on a sled mount that must have been outside for a long time. Its all rusted and pitted and the feet on the sled mount are also rusted off. Even with the battle damage, yours is in much better shape.
Re: MG 08 FROM BATTLEFIELD
Great item! I love battle damaged items! I love that the optics rail was torn off. I would not have wanted to be around when that damage was done! Much like my battle damaged Sled, I think its artillery hits not direct fire. What year are they gun and Sled?
Fishpaw, if that Sled is for sale, please let me know!

Re: MG 08 FROM BATTLEFIELD
Neat 08!!!! Scary battle damage, I think like you, that most of it was caused by artillery.
