Here are some photos of my M53 that I have marked places to cut. Please check and be sure I have these right.

Re: Looking for demilitarized MG42
LOOKING GOOD!!
Sounds like a great plan. Don't cut the front till you get the piece in from rtg and measure everything several times. Everything is looking good.
Review several of the bolt conversion plans and the same for the grip stick plans. You can try to buy ones already done or redo the ones in your parts kit.

Re: Looking for demilitarized MG42
That's easy? Might be but it doesn't look easy except for using a jig which is a good idea.robertmcw wrote:This looks like the easy way to put the nose right......

John
If you buy that piece from rtg then putting on the rtg nose piece will be super easy. That thread that was linked in the above post was before rtg started bringing in those front cut barrel shroud pieces. That way shows the old way to install a replacement bushing, which is a good way but yours will be a lot easier. Cut in the right spot 4 welds and your done.

Re: Looking for demilitarized MG42
Thanks! Yep, I bought the RTG nose piece so it should work out fine.
Re: Looking for demilitarized MG42
I think the 3/8 rod is too large. I tried a 5/16 bolt and it is too large for a 308 barrel. Any ideas for John’s build so he is not required to have a banana shroud or pay too much for a jig?

Add those items to your parts kit and your off and building. Good Luck with everything.

Re: Looking for demilitarized MG42
One thing that just occurred to me is that the rear section I have coming from BRP is not blued. Do I need to have that done before welding or do I leave it as is and paint it after welding? Or have it blued after welding? I know, it's a dumb question, but ya don't know for sure unless ya ask.......
Also, I was doing some more cleaning and happened to notice the German Eagle on the Cam Piece. As far as I can determine it's the only part that has this marking.

Re: Looking for demilitarized MG42
A very nice find. Does the other part have the same number?? The straight part that fits inside the "U" part that you have pictured.

If you mean the pivot pin it shows no numbers at all.

John
Not the pin, there is a piece (or should be) that goes where your fingers are holding the "U" shaped piece. Look at the following link.

Most folks around here call that part a camming piece. It's the straight piece that goes with the "U" shaped piece. If you don't have it then you should call and talk with centerfire and they normally will send you one.

Forgot -- you blue or paint after you are done test firing and are happy with everything.

Re: Looking for demilitarized MG42
A buddy of mine sent me this link and I am wondering if any of you guys have dealt with them. Are they reputable and are their prices in line? I plan to order some ammo for my M53 from them soon. Which ammo should I order for my gun? It's 8mm (7.92?). Thanks in advance.

Re: Looking for demilitarized MG42
I received my front section from Robert at RTG today. I'll hang loose until I get the receiver parts from Brian at BRP then we'll see about some fixin' up!

Re: Looking for demilitarized MG42
UPS just delivered the rear sheet metal assembly so I guess I'm about ready for some work to begin!
