Re: Looking for demilitarized MG42
One item I know I will need is a useable 8mm M53 barrel as I hope to assemble this as a semi-auto gun. Where can I find that guys?

Re: Looking for demilitarized MG42
Good Luck. Keep looking on gunbroker. You could also post a wanted in the wanted section on this website. I don't think that I would try evilbay as I think any barrel on there will sell for too much money. Or gunshows or knob creek.
Anything around $100 would be great over $200 it should be nice.
Can wait to see pics after you get your kit.

Thanks. I am REALLY looking forward to receiving it. I figure there will be a lot of parts I'll have to dig up for it but we'll see.

Re: Looking for demilitarized MG42
Check out the following for the parts for the receiver
http://www.brpguns.com/mg42-semi-receiver-parts/
Brian is a good guy on this. That said wait till you get the parts kit and see how long the barrel shroud is in the camming area.

I remember I/O was selling the four cut receivers with all German parts in the $400.00 area and I thought that was wayyyy to high.

Angola Dan was selling them cheaper than that.
Of course I remember a few years ago when I had money in my pocket -- now I only have change..
Hope you get a nice parts kit today.

Re: Looking for demilitarized MG42
I checked the UPS tracking site and it says out for delivery. They don't usually show up at my house until late afternoon or early evening. We shall see!

UPS delivered it about an hour ago.
Re: Looking for demilitarized MG42
You got a really good shroud. If you clean all the sticky stuff off, spay some gun oil soon or the parts will start to rust quick,
Ask how I know.

Re: Looking for demilitarized MG42
AWESOME PHOTOS !!!
If you are like me ,you will be looking to find someone to put it all together.
Is this going to be a Display gun, or a Shooter ???
Start buying accessories now if the funds are in the budget, I have found that all of
the "Good Stuff" for both the Mg34's and 42's are drying up , and drying up FAST !!

Yep, I need to find someone to assemble it for me and get it set up as a semi-auto shooter. At this point I don't quite know what other stuff I'll need.Oldrelic wrote:AWESOME PHOTOS !!!![]()

Diesel or paint thinner is better. Gas works but not my fave.

Re: Looking for demilitarized MG42
After sitting down and studying the parts, etc and looking at my manuals I find there is no receiver. I understand those are pricey.
Re: Looking for demilitarized MG42
You will need to make a Fenkenstain gun.
A little of this and a little of that.
You can get the nose and the end at RTG Parts and the middle – you will need to find somebody selling just the middle parts (good luck). You can get a whole kit from here http://mg34.com/M-53-Mg42-Spare-Parts-Set-p2/ (but you will still need the RTG parts for the end and the nose) and use your shroud and you will need to get a barrel and you are in business. That will need ONE wide weld – where the grip stick goes. I think that cut is supposed to be a minimum ¼ cut. When you clean the slag, it will be wider but not much. There will be four in total welds but three welds will be touching, if you cut the parts right.
Your shroud alone is about worth about half of your whole kit.
With the 2 kits deal, you will never run of parts.
Kits only get more expensive as time passes.

Re: Looking for demilitarized MG42
Thanks Robert. I'm just going to have to sit back and make some decisions and decide just where to go with it. By center section are you referring to just the receiver?

You kit has only the front part less the bushing. Your front is a nice part. It seems the butstock is nice too.
These guns were not supposed to EVERY use ammo again but Priate and couple guys figgered how to make them into SEMI working guns.
Now everybody wants one and the parts are getting harder to find the good stuff.
In a few years, the not so good stuff will be hard to find.
Patience grasshopper. Your learning curve has began!!!!!!!

Re: Looking for demilitarized MG42
Don't I know it! LOL I sent the MG34 site a e-mail asking if they sell the receiver parts alone. We'll see what they say.
How long have you been at this? Obviously I'm a novice. By the way, that's a great looking gun you have!
