help ID'ing a receiver

Post by blckwlfny »

I have pieces that all came from the same receiver ( know b/c they are so cleanly cut, they fit like puzzle pieces).
It has an aa mount on the front shroud. the rearmost section with the buffer tabs has the following marks on it:

DF
5546 c
a r

is this a '42 or an m53?

Hello yours is indeed WW2 German, DF is the year code of manufacture 1944. 5546c is the serial number. AR is the manufacturers code for Mauser. The letter in serial number means 10,000 made, so 5546c means yours was the 35,546th Mg42 Mauser made. Jonathan.

Well Said, Jonathan.

Next is what type of front sight ears do you have and what is the opening like on the bottom of your receiver. Gripstick holder opening that is and how do the rivets line up. Do they match the codes that you stated?

What I'm talking about is in this thread

viewtopic.php?f=39&t=1830

Knowing who made it and serial number you can cross reference the charts and double check the front sight area and the grip stick hole and the rivet line up. Looks like you have the short step front sight area. No holes in the muzzle area weld. Grip stick area can't tell. Rivet line up can't tell.

Good Luck
