Thanks for the info 42 rocker. I started on my kit on saturday. I put in the piece on the front that the flash hider screws to. I got it on straight and my barrel/bushing moves back and forth with ease. I got the rear end from brp. Do you know if anyone has assembled the rear sheet metal kits from brp? i wondered aboutsetting the correct width before welding. I figured i would make it the same as the front but not too sure about a couple things. The bendsare not square. in a couple places they are folded in a little too much. not a big deal i just wondered if i need to hammer it square first before i weld it up. Also, there aren't any machined areas where the buffer cams go. Again not a big deal but i would like to make those cuts before welding. I saw on oakrodent's build that he had a ruler showing the width of those cuts but not any depth. Also it doesn't say where the others are located from the rear. I kinda figured i could use the buffer as a general idea of where they need 2 be but i dont want it to be loose. I haven't seen any builds using the BRP rear sheet metal kit. If there isnt 1 i will document mine and post it!
BTW.....off subject, my brother lives in fl 42rocker. He is in chiefland. I don't miss the humidity.

Doing a little topic highjacking here but what ever. There is a GREAT tread / topic on just building a brp receiver. Look for the current oakrodent build and he does a (again) GREAT tread on it. Use your search and find it. If you can't ask Bil or post a help to find it.... You may have found it but double check it and double read it.
I hope that you do lots of pics and post as much as you get the chance to. Ask Brian / brp any questions as he is great to work with.
Chiefland is a few miles away. Does he get over to the Hernando shoots or? If in Fla and you get the chance to time it with a Hernando full auto shoot it's a fun shoot to watch. Not as much fun for the shooters at times. But a very interesting shoot at any rate.
Hope to see pics. Good Luck with your build also.....

I have a set of the BRP 2-piece rear shells. They are definitely too wide to just butt-weld down the length.

Re: Ejector function
Maybe some day's it is better to have to much than be missing 1/8 inch or more. Brian uses a plasma torch to weld these things up with, I believe. Cuts welds everything...
Good Luck with your build.

Re: Ejector function
Sorry I didn’t notice that this thread was still going otherwise I would have replied sooner. I did all the work myself on a lathe and mill. I did as 42rocker stated and welded the extension to the old carrier. As far as the spring goes I already cut mine to size. First I clamped the buffer in my milling vise. Then I cut the first 3 coils off. Carefully I next collapsed the spring with the bolt and kept trimming it a half of a coil at a time till the buffer completely compressed the ejector button. Food for thought. In the past, especially with cast iron, I have been able to match surface texture of rough finishes by using a needle or slag scaler. Just cut the air pressure back so it doesn’t peen it too hard then sand lightly with 80 grit to take off the high spots. You will be amazed at how well it blends in. I had thought about matching the bolt extension but I am undecided. I can always do it later.
Re: Ejector function
Another thing about the spring. You can cut it with a stick welder with the amps turned up and use any old rod to melt/cut it appart. I use the same method for cutting cable and it fuses the end quite nicley.
