No. Only PJ. Definitely MG42 not M53. I asked IMA for swj PJ and got the PJ-only and an M53.

All MG42 were definitely makers marked. The Steyr codes were very smooth, because it was only electropencilled. In the year 1944 and 1945 the code was very fine electropencilled. After a rework you nearly can´t read the code or it was complete removed. The Austrian army (Bundesheer) sometimes removed the makers code, these receivers were used as spare parts. Instead of the makers code there was place for the new serial number, because it was not allowed to remove the old serial number.

Abominog, if you have the chance to take pictures, please post them.

Best regards,
Christian

Christian, would it help your database, if you only got half the data? IMA sold at least 100+ demilled MG-42 receivers not too long ago, here in the US. The 3 cut pieces are from the same receiver. The receiver was saw cut first around the 1st. rivet, and torch cut 2 more times. The cam section to the barrel bushing sections were sold off long ago, with parts sets. These rear pieces would give you info. on the cocking handle stop, rear tripod mount, and Code & S/N. I have 6, and most members may have at least 1. Thanks for the great database.

Hello Clarence,

every info helps. With the half data you can determine for example the change of the year code or producers code. Also the change from the short to the long tripod mount is visible. And as you mention you can also see the change from the early style cocking handle to the new style cocking handle. So every little info helps :eureka:

Thanks and best ragards,
Christian

Hello Rocco,

I am interested in 6 details of the reciever:

- muzzle area
- front sight area
- rear sight area
- block for the cocking handle
- rear tripod mount
- code + serial number

I see, you have different receiver sections. If there is only the code + serial number left, maybe also the rear tripod mount, this also helps. Maybe i can determine the change of the year code and the producer code more exactly...

Thanks and greetings from Austria
