Probably Illegal MG-34 Receiver on Gunbroker
Probably Illegal MG-34 Receiver on Gunbroker
Looks like some folks on gunbroker want to go to jail for a 34 receiver:

At least to me this auction doesn't read like a legite Class 3 transfer.

It is too bad that when all these people go to jail the ATF is just going to destroy it. According to Wiki the WaA4 means it's one of the following makers and year ranges:
WaA4 Otto Sindel Berlin 1934
WaA4 Berlin-Suhler Waffenwerke Suhl 1937 - 39
WaA4 Berlin-Suhler Waffenwerke Suhl 1938
WaA4 337 Berlin-Suhler Waffenwerke Suhl 1939
WaA4 936 Gustloff-Werke Weimar 1940
A nice vintage, no rate reducer cut so later mfg. In this hobby, if it's too good to be true then it's probably illegal!!!

A few nice pics for us to look at any rate. Would be interesting to hear more about this piece. Does it have papers, is it stolen?, a bring back just found in the attic? or What?

I wonder if the Reach toothbrush comes with the receiver, might come in handy in prison.
NY is not even a state that allows Class III guns. It is a beautiful receiver otherwise.

I downloaded most of the pictures as a referance, since it has the places that are usually gone.I think the guy needs a new camera, too! It may be a registered receiver, but not likely with no mention of it,and the price. ---bil

Re: Probably Illegal MG-34 Receiver on Gunbroker
I wonder if the BATFE bought it...or was the seller?
I don't think they are below trolling for idiots, coming as close as they can to entrapment. A guy at a gun show asked me if I wanted to buy "his GrandDad's" MP-40 without papers. Hard to say if that character was sincere or a spy. Either way, the price is WAY too high to even consider an illegal NFA firearm.

Anybody ever consider this approach? ...
Contact the seller & offer to buy the receiver if he uses a band saw to cut it into three pieces?
That'd work, right?

Re: Probably Illegal MG-34 Receiver on Gunbroker
Technically it would need to be cut to ATF specs. 3 torch cuts removing at least 1/4" of metal in specific areas. Sucks
Re: Probably Illegal MG-34 Receiver on Gunbroker
I wonder where the heck he even found that??? Just the receiver? Who would have brought that home? "Look ma, I brought home this cool unrecognizable chunk of metal as a souvenier for ya!"" How weird is that???

I heard an interesting story once...dwmmg08 wrote:I wonder where the heck he even found that??? Just the receiver? Who would have brought that home? "Look ma, I brought home this cool unrecognizable chunk of metal as a souvenier for ya!"" How weird is that???
A bunch of buddies decide to go see the tank museum at Aberdeen, MD. Those tanks have been outside for decades. They have been painted (inside & out)...and painted...and painted...and painted - you get the idea. All the fixtures and fittings inside the tanks are all kinda blobbed together under all the layers of paint, right?
Well, these guys show up and they are just looking around, like normal tourists. Before long one of them decides that they need to get inside a tank, right? Typical guys, right?
Somehow they find a tank that isn't padlocked. They drop into the dank interior. They are just goofing off, looking around inside, ya know? One of them is a real 'gun nut' and he recognizes a MG34 receiver that is still locked into a mount in the turret! It has been painted & painted & painted - right along with everything else in there. One of them comes up with a pocket knife and they use it to chip/cut away all the paint ... eventually they free it from its mount and abscond with the receiver!
I have no idea if this is a true story, but it sounds plausible to me....

Re: Probably Illegal MG-34 Receiver on Gunbroker
Grandpa could have brought it back and sold off the pieces as a parts kit, figuring he'd keep the receiver just in case. He's gone now, and the kids don't know about Form 4's and such things.
I'd guess it's a 50/50 on it being ATF. The money saved on it instead of buying a registered gun doesn't even pay the retainer for the attorney to try to keep you out of jail. I prefer to keep my butt an exit only. No incoming traffic allowed.

Butt Butt someone has a nice """PINK HAT"""".... LOL
I think that someone has the right idea........ buy the stuff with papers......
Anyrate download the photos for your records.. And I believe that not only do you have to do the cuts, 1/4 etc, don't they have to be done in front of an inspector????
Watch out everyone for those great deals..

DO NOT DOWNLOAD THE PHOTOS. If the ATF(E) ever seizes your computer and finds those pics, that could easily be viewed as "constructive intent" to build a machine gun.42rock wrote:Butt Butt someone has a nice """PINK HAT"""".... LOL
