Re: Ammo belts, lot of 50
There are several variations of WWII and postwar belts, mostly differing in the number and location of reinforcement ribs stamped into the links. Some postwar belts are blued, some phosphated. All of the can work in an original MG-42. I use Postwar Yugo belts exclusively when shooting the MG-42. I save the German WWII belts for collector's items. Occasionally, if you use a German WWII belt with a starter tab, the tab can get caught and tear the first link of the belt apart, ruining the it permanently. I am not as worried using the Yugo belts because they are not original wartime accessories and are still pretty inexpensive. I just hate using the MG-3 belts with the hooked link on the end. It's a real pain to attach a starter tab and not so easy to link belts together as the original WWII belts or the postwar Yugo ones that are closer copies of the WWII belts.

Re: Ammo belts, lot of 50
All correct, but that was probably why the German postwar army made a product improvement and invented the hooked tab! Although it takes a little more brainpower to attach it doesn't snag so easily when shooting!
Even Bil can manage that Darius!

I never get a break.. seriously.
I just don't like those hooked belt ends. They don't fit well onto the WWII starter tabs.
