This is supposed be used on dismounted tank coax MG-34's?

Yes,the bipod also attaches to this piece.Chris-does the front of the coaxial on the 34 have the cone? I saw one in France,and couldn't figure out if it didn't have one,or it was missing.Thanks. ---bil

I'm not for sure to be honest.....Bergflak (here) or Damien Horn over in Jersey would probably know.... As far as DA goes....well, he's got nice tastes in tanks....most folks go for the bigger ones, I personally like the Pnz II and the Stugs... Chris...

Not clear to me what you are reffering to Bil, but I guess "cone" is the flash-hider!

Yes, the panzermantel uses the same (it also holds the recoil booster of course!). The difference between the standard Laufmantel and the Panzermantel lies with the locking device for the flash hider. On the Panzermantel the locking is obtained by a special O-ring with a protruding finger, as the normal Mantel has the locking mech as the forward part of the front sight.

Was this the correct info? Might be something written inside the egg-carton.......

its missing a lot of parts. the gun would not work if was fired as there is no way for recoil to happen. the barrel could be altered, welded in place, cut short. looks like it is in bad shape overall. its a musuem pic? - matt

Yes,this is in the military museum at the Invalides in Paris.I have a few other pics I took,the entire turret was there.The pic resizer we have here doesn't seem to work well at all,I have to e-mail pictures to myself to get them re-sized! When I saw the gun,I wondered how it would work,I couldn't figure it out at all! ---bil

The instructions for the Panzermantel should be printed in fine text on the inside of the egg-carton (it might be in Norwegian, but that shouldn't be a problem for an experienced gentleman like yourself!)
The pictured MG34 Mantel ain't a co-ax at all (and is missing a lot of parts). The laufmantel for the Panzer MG's looks very different. It is thick-walled to protect the barrel from splinters and fragments, and is tubular to enable it to go through the ball-mount (that is why the panzermantel has a detachable bipod-assembly!).

This is mounted to the right of the main gun,not the ball setup.I know the shroud is the wrong one,it may just be one the museum janitor stuck on there to get it out of the way.Just because it is in a museum doesn't make it correct,I have pics of an mg34 with the postwar Czech bipod,and the belt is new going in,the empty links coming out are rusty! I may have to bring them the right parts next time I am there. ---bil PS-I thought that writing was a recipe for an omelet-i wondered why it called for 1/2 Lb of black powder! Tasted awful! And what a reaction!

The ball-mounted and co-ax mounted are the same. Both have the panzermantel with it's advantages! Since there are no "protruding bits", they can both be mounted through a hole that equals the diameter of the mantel. Leaves no place for stray bullets to enter the vehicle!
