Test fireing report
I took my 42 to the range today to test fire it. I only got off 1 round, unfortunately it was
not in the chamber!! I loaded a 2 round belt and it fed fine, I pulled the trigger and it did
not fire, si I yanked the charging handle back and heard a loud pop and smoke came out
of the receiver. I opened the feed cover and found the case and bullet.
The extractor really holds the case firmly, I guess the firing pin hit the buffer and fired the
round. when the bolt got all the way back, I didn't think the firing pin was long enough to
do this.
After several more attempts all I was getting was a small dimple on the primer. I started
trying to figure out what the problem is but haven't figured it out yet. I will staret out fresh
on monday and hopefully get it working.

The buffer screw needs to be Drilled out in the center so the
firing pin can stay neutral when cocking to the rear for ejection,
or safety.Only the ejection Ring should smack the buffer in order
to push the eject pin forward.
I've had nightmares about it, but Hunts did a nice ream
on that screw, and never has the Fpin bottom'd out.
Your 1 lucky sumbitch. And here I though your ammo would
all dump on one pull.....
Glad your alive to report it. Did you pull the trig from a string, and
behind a car or something.......lol
My report today was good. The 8mm can take a slack front Firing pin spring,
and still not slam fire. I got off 300 rounds today...Lots of stinky romanian smoke everywhere.
Forgot the camera. Sorry. I loaded more .308 box/Berd for tomorrow for the holiday and
all 308 is easy to shoot from shoulder.

Karbinator,
acording to my measurments it shouldn't have happened. I was thinking of drilling
out the screw before.
The round didn't really make a lot of noise, once the case burst the pressure was relieved
and most of the powder didn't burn I was holding the gun at the time, wearing leather
gloves and safety glasses.I am not sure why the pin isn't hitting hard enough. I played
with it for a while with no result.

if it was surplus ammo then i say a squib load/ bad round with corosion inside the case, the powder was probly clumped together eatin the case, primer was crap so it took a few seconds to ignite the bad powder and build pressure, i took some 50 cal apart looked like that and some 8mm surplus too, glad you are ok , remember fail to fire wait at least 10 seconds before rechamberin
Great men are born in fire, it is the privilege of lessor men to light the flame, no matter the cost

Drill it out anyway... hospitals suck.
It doesn't take much of a strike on 308 to light it up.
Hell, my problem is blown primers on 308.
If you're convinced it didn't go off cause of the buffer then
take the buffer and bolt out of the gun , and lay them together
like they would when they contact eachother...there are holes
on the last bit of the buffer sides where you can see through...and
see if your pin hits. Try it.
Another thought on this is your pin. You have 3-4 designs on one of
tutorials, and I'm thinking you said you're using the one w/out a rear
spring....just two collars, and one front spring. I remember you saying
the rear collar doesn't touch the feed stud....but I have to ask--how can
that be? How can it be isolated from the rear, and still have a spring on the
front? I'm confused about that....Tell me how that works
A small spring on the rear (3-4 coils), and a like amount of coils cut from the front
spring will relocte the spring forward, and Keep it neutral. I don't know how
long your pin is, and if doing this will space your hammer Off the back of the f pin.

The round fired when I retracted the bolt. It has a perfect firing pin impression in the primer.
The firing pin only makes a small dimple in the primer when a round is chambered. I am
not sure why I am not getting enough force to fire. The dimentions on the pin are guesstamates.
When I turned the pins I used the dimentions from the FA pin for diameter and length and
firing pin protrusion. The pin stops in the bolt to eliminate excess protrusion that would
puncture primers. I did not se a rear spring on the few photos available of the sa pins.
basically it would be a lot easier if I had some drawings/dimentions to work from, lacking
these I am working out the problems and dimentions as I go. if someone with a working gun
were to post some decent photos and dimentions it would be simple to make the parts.
I don't have a lathe or mill and am depending on acess to a friends equipment which slows
things down as he lives an hour away and is not always available. If you could post some
photos and dimentions it would be a big help. The more information we can post here will
help others with thier builds and keep them from having to keep reinventing the wheel

Ask away on measurements...I laid this out so you could ask in reference to how it's
sitting on the paper. I hope you're using this wrap around spoon ejector too. The shorter mg3 is for nigh
with firing pin and bushings in the way...in fact may be your Real problem if so.
