well i'm not dead, still hangin around
, have been very busy with schooling, but every day in metal shop for the past while i have been tinkering with my demil receiver. I have successfully deactivated it (well it doesn't take much to deactivate a canadian gun!). There is actually no different between my deact and your semi auto's except that i made my own bushing that is completely solid for display purposes, and i had to tack a small metal plate to the back of the receiver where the buffer goes. That can be removed, but the buffer once installed must be tacked in place as a legal requirement. I've just got to sand blast it, then she's off to market, so i can get funds for my brp stampings ! I'm not bringing it home until its sandblasted, so likely next week, then i can take some pictures.
Okay, my main reason for this post is i have successfully welded up my gripstick to one of pirates FAL fcg boxes. I'll get pics of that up asap, but i seemed to have misplaced the cord required to transfer pics from my camera to the computer lol. Anyways, i checked the holes in the box with some drill bits, and everything looks square, so all i need are the FAL trigger parts to install!
I truly am not sure whether or not i can have the trigger parts exported to canada though, so chances are i'll pay the extra dollar for parts from marstar ... Only issue is, i don't know crap about the FAL or pirates grips, so anybody out there with a "pirate FAL grip" able to help me identify which small parts i will need from this list?

These are for C1, and L1A1 FAL's if that matters?
Thanks guys, i'll get pics up asap!

glad yer not dead Mike...you were tinkering around with a few experimental projects that had us worried!
I am still impressed you are getting away working on what you are working on in a school metal shop class!
alot of chances...
I remember way back when I was in high school, we used to make knives out of wood...and we had to sneak about doing that...I remember turning a block of wood on the band saw when it got away from me and the instructor was asking what the hell I was trying to make!!!
had to say the thing caught me while making a straight cut!
ah...memories...
...but if they knew were were making knives in wood shop...can't imagine what they must think you making receivers for a firearm in metal shop!!!
well, be safe...and keep learning. I wish I had a chance to learn what you know in metal shop...I am well past my highschool years...and I wish I had the opportunities you got going!
just be safe and make sure you keep all yer fingers!
I think back as some crazy things I had done tinkering with this and that and I am glad alot of things FAILED...shutter to think what would have happened if things went 'as planned' and as 'not as planned'!

My teacher's son is a gun-owner, and frankly, i just think my teacher is just amazed by the fact its an old ww2 mg , the "cool-factor" is on my side . Plus, i never bring the whole thing in, just small parts here and there, it is unrecognizable to the rest of the students. Except for the ones that play that darned Call of Duty game! I just tell them its for paintball / airsoft to keep questions minimal, only my teacher knows whats up and a couple of the other tech teachers that go to the metal shop during lunch to eat.
My 2 hobbies are this, and electronics. You think this is dangerous, you don't want to know the other things im tinkering around with lol. Nah, i'm playing it safe, don't worry too much .
I'm not a big fan of saws, so i try to stray from anything like that. Worst i've done in the shop would have to be burning my neck with the welding rod after TIG welding, and removing my mask with the rod still in hand . But, yep, all my fingers remain.

Thanks DADARIVS ARCHITECTVS wrote:Michael who ?
Well as i promised, here she is. I still need to sand blast it, and i'm thinking i'll do a simple cold-blue finish. See how it turns out anyways, should look pretty cool though.

Cold blue should stick to that metal pretty well if it is sandblasted.

Although back to the initial question, anyone know what FAL trigger parts i'll need?
I figure: trigger, sear, hammer, hammer spring thingy, trigger return sprig thingy, am i missing anything?

The hammer spring thingy is the hammer spring, hammer spring rod[guide rod], hammer spring housing[spring seat]. The hammer spring rod bears on the hammer and the hammer spring housing against the grip. The trigger and trigger spring and sear. The trigger plunger bears against the back of the trigger through the bracket on the underside of the box that you fitted to the grip. You forgot the sear spring and the trigger plunger[another guide rod]. I am assuming that you will turn rods for the hammer and trigger pins. It is looking good so far! Remember that there is no stop to keep everthing together if you pull the trigger out of the receiver.
Re: well i'm not dead, still hangin around
Thank you pathfinder, the exact information i was looking for ! I'll see what i can turn, and buy the rest.

I remember those days-making explosives in chemistry class, wooden knives in shop class, fake guns out of bars of soap during yard time..... ---bil

Bil,
I thought that was you in in the cell next to me in 'D' block in Attica...
Does bring back the memories...bet you could go for some raison wine that fermented in the toilet!!
I do rememeber in HS trying to figure out how to make a rheostat so I could electrolize salt to make it into pure sodium...
Seemed to be interesting stuff...but didn't have the cahonies to plug in a homemade rheostat into the socket and the other into some water filled with salt!
ah the goods old days when a boy could dream and the sky was the limit

Making explosives out of matchheads, making wooden shivs, carving dildos out of soap, and occasionally forgetting to guard his cornhole when bending over to pick up the raw material he needed. . . then

That was why soap on a roap was invented! Also handy if you lost it! That toilet wine was great, shivs made from folded magazine covers [nat'l Geographic is best, better paper].Cigarette shooters made from straws----boy,those were the good old days.Better get used to them guys! ---bil DA-better stock up on corks, you look real sweet in that dress!

I'm not sure whats more disturbing...
The content of this thread or The fact i find it so funny!
Although the thought of Bil failing to collect his raw materials

You really want disturbing-think of a 6 foot tall guy, large and sort of muscular-wearing a dress and carrying a Panzerschrek!! That will keep you awake for years!!! .Even in Canada that would be considered strange! ---bil

Re: well i'm not dead, still hangin around
We've go pretty low standards... but that one takes it!
Re: well i'm not dead, still hangin around
As i promised, my dummy receiver . I had to weld a small metal plate to the back prior to mating the two halves, to comply with canadian deactivation protocol. Buffer does fit though, i just don't want to weld my buffer to it, as i'm selling the thing . Grip slot extended, little stud placed inside, completely unnecessary work by canadian standards... (i find out after though ). The bushing i made myself is completely solid, display only. But on the bright side, everything fits! Except that dumb charging handle has to be filed like 1/16" on one of the edges to squeeze in there. No rails installed also, and i spent two days with a wire wheel removing the crappy old bluing on the front half, as my rear's ceased to exist.

Pretty much, the thing is identical to your semi-auto's (minus the bushing i just tacked on, so it may be removed easily). As it is a reweld, unlike most canadian deacts which do not alter the original receiver, this legally speaking could be sent to an american buying through FFL and used in a semi auto. Technically speaking you'd have to go over a couple of my crappy welds .

I'd dress it up and all, but i don't want to hammer my "trunnion" (i know someone is going to kill me for using that term), but i don't know its real name! I test fitted the feedtray and topcover, fits nice though.
