buffer/buttstock question

Post by j.bal »

I need a little help. The buffer/backplate is one piece with threads for the buttstock. The way the buffer is designed it can only be installed one way, with the contour of the receiver. The backplate is also shaped like the receiver. Well mine is sideways. What I mean by that is, the backplate is turned so that the sides are on top. That is if the piece in installed only one way. I have pictures but just got the camera so I need some time to set up. Also the threaded area that the buttstock attaches to is also canted, so that the only way to properly attach the buttstock is on its side. I hope I am making sense.

is your receiver welded? if so you need to grind out the inside and clearance on the bottom side to let the buffer turn all the way.

Thanks Pirate, I just checked it out and now I see what you mean. Can anyone post a pic of the bottom of the rear of the receiver. The part that has the buffer release lever?

Jbal.... remove only slag on the interior of the buffer area. I got wacky on those torch slag bumps on my first
reciever, and man, It made the buffer sloppy. The buffer spring is inserted sideways, and then turned until the
dentent lock catches it. This applies to the stock as well.....same thing. Removing anything other than slag will
cause problems for buffer spring alignment.

Sorry, I no have photo

Thanks for the help, but I already had the receiver welded up. Didn't know ahead of time how the buffer is installed that is why I would like to see some pics.

cool...

I wanted to say....buttstock snaps into the large slot on the back of the buffer (squeeze button -twist-snap)
When together,w/ the left side of the stock facing upwards, you insert the buffer (top cover upwards) and twist counter
clockwise. hold the detent(on gun) open till you bottom out in your turn...snap

you may already be this far.....

What detent?

It's on the bottom rear, but likely not installed yet. It's a spring loaded lever that keeps an L shaped leg in that oval hole
....it reaches in, and locks up the buffer (slotted out in buffer). In my field manual, it's called the Buffer detent latch.
