I have to get the front receiver stub out of my Mg34 and I am having trouble. When Brian (at BRP)sold these they had the first maybe 3†or so left in the barrel shroud (the barrel is still in there as well).
When I press the release lever on the barrel shroud and try to turn the receiver piece counter-clockwise it does not want to budge. My basic mechanical intuition is NEVER to force anything, so I call upon your help.
I know one of these days I have to get the reichsmarks saved up to buy one of Jbaum’s manuals, I am waiting for gas prices to drop

Make sure you are twisting it the correct way. While depressing the release tap it with a rubber mallet. It will twist off fine. It has been my experience that with out the extra leverage afforded by the stock and entire receiver these can be some what snug.

Thanks C310, I have the right way sorted out I just was not sure if bringing out the mallet was okay. The idea of going Three Stooges on it with a soft/blunt object seemed like a logical step, I just needed confirmation.
THANKS AGAIN

Dead on C310, the light mallet tap worked like a charm

This might be to late, but on mine I made sure that I took off the booster first and moved the barrel as forward as posible so it did not hit.

Late, yeah that receiver is long gone
But that it is great advice added to have on record the next time someone finds themselves in a situation that requires more torque than I needed.
