IMA has demil MG 42 recievers

Post by jkpat »

For those that may be interested IMA has just listed early style demilled receivers (rear section) for the 42. They are cut well in front of the tabs and at the back of the ejector port. Prices range from $100 to $225 depending on manufacture and date.

HOLY COW,

I bet that guy who just paid a boatload of money on GB for that receiver rear is going to feel silly.

It begs the question was IMA sitting on these waiting to see which way the idiot winds were blowing regarding the election, and likely laws to come?

Looks like, if i decided to grab one of those i'd also need one of the "Cammnig repair section" pieces from wiselite or something.

@ Anybody who's re-welded a rear receiver, you guys think it easier than building from a receiver blank? Because these rears are definitely cheaper, and if they are easier, i'm going to have to get one of these instead :D.

hmm... no exporting. Anybody want to "boot" for me  . There are no laws against the receiver in canada, nor do i believe there are laws against americans exporting it :? , curse you IMA!

Here's the link, guys:

https://www.ima-usa.com/products_new.php

Thanks to JKPat for the heads-up.

IMA has figured that the codes determine the value of the metal. Simple serial numbered rears are $100. Those with manufacturer codes are $150. Those with serials, codes and dates, are $200. Those with serials, dates, codes and model designation ("MG42") are $225.

Now I need to find the six fellows from GunBroker that were willing to pay almost $1400 for the same pieces! 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8)

I think I would rather build from one of these -but that is just me.I wonder if they are going to just let these trickle out and keep the prices up,or if they only have what is showing. My guess is the first option. ---bil

I ordered a bunch of them today. The manager I talked to today said they are selling like hot cakes. They will be sold out before the weeks end they figure. So, if you are thinking of buying one.....DO IT NOW.

I ordered some yesterday. Even at those prices, it's a good deal.

Guys, we're always looking for receiver sections to finish our builds. Folks on this board need to buy these out before they make their way to GunBroker and sell for $1400 each! (I may be one of the sellers -- how am I going to pay for these things?   )

As somebody who does not have a rear receiver section just yet and has not dabbled in Mg-42's yet should I get one of the $100 ones ASAP? I'm picking up my kit this weekend as i've been waiting a year to meet up with the guy who has it we've both been busy!

so $100 decent?

And don't neglect to get the "hand pick" option. It's only $10.

I hope you are not too late.

Can anyone who has these types of receivers tell me if the "Camming repair section stamping" is needed? By the looks of the picture, i am missing about a half inch - 3/4inch of metal. I really would be displeased if i had to spend $120 on that lol. I've never done any major welding, well actually, really any welding. I learned how to use a stick welder at school today 8), but thats it. Is about 3/4 too big of a gap to just fill with weld or scrap metal pieces?

Also, just canceled my order from APEX, i'll be damned if IMA runs out by the time i order! .

Just in case they do, i'll have to mooch one of those $100 receivers from someone else who bought them :D.

If your receiver shroud section does not have the camming section attached, YES, you will need to find a camming section.

Several of us were fortunate enough a while back to get a group of YUGO shroud sections with the cam sections still attached. The rear sections coming from IMA will fit these perfectly for a complete receiver. :D :D :D :D :D :D

If you manage to get one of the IMA sections, you might fish around here on this board and find a member willing to part with one of the Yugo receivers with the cam section atttached.

Michael,

I just noticed that APEX is selling the Yugo kits I mentioned on Gunbroker. They are supplied without bipods. But the pix they have on Gunbroker shows the shroud with the camming section attached. If you order one from them, be sure to call them and and make sure that the camming sections are attached to the shroud. IF so, they will mate up perfectly with the IMA sections and you will have a complete receiver. All you will need to add is a Wiselite barrel bushing.

You think this long enough to mate, or am i just missing too much? I figure only about an inch tops, or are my estimates WAY off?

Michael,

Yep, you are about an inch too short. (Don't feel alone. I'm always an inch too short. 8) ) What a shame.

The rear receiver sections from IMA take up at the first rivet hole behind the camming hole.

You still need to get one of the IMA sections regardless, though.

Did you get your shroud section from APEX? IF so, you might be able to swap it for one that has the complete camming section. Your only other alternative would be to build your own section to mate the two. You would need to be a VERY talented metal worker, though.

I checked thru my spares in hopes that I might have a camming section scrap that would help you out, but no luck.

Maybe somebody here has the inch or two of receiver that you need and would be willing to donate it to the cause.

(How about it fellows? Michael is the next generation of gun builders trying to do it on a very tight budget. Does anybody have a camming section scrap that would complete his receiver?)

aw :( , yeah i bought it from a board member not too long ago, i don't think apex would be willing to swap ! I'm thinking i may be able to fill that 1 inch though. It won't look pretty, or really authentic for that matter, but it should still function.

I guess if i end up getting the IMA rear, i'm saving alot of cash anyways, and suppose i could just buy that repair section.

Yeah, i'm excited as heck too! I think i'll be placing an order pretty soon. I will have to assess the gap between the ima $100 rear i'm going to buy, and my m53 shroud. I doubt i'm going to fabricate anything more than an inch, and an inch is pushing it. I figure i will have to find me some donor metal, and crudely weld it together . However, worst comes to worst, i'll just buy a repair section, it'll look nicer 8) .
