MGZ40 Pre Purchase Opinion... Comments Please

Post by mkVsten »

Have been in touch with a seller offering this MGZ40 with storage can. He is asking $1800. He tells me optics are perfect and the piece has not been repainted...Comments?

Anybody else find it odd that all the screws are filled with paint?

The MGz40 sight was issued in either panzergray or tan. This looks like Norwegian green repaint.

The MGz34 (sometimes reffered to as only "MGz") was issued as a standard in ordnance green.

It does appear to be repainted, your bith right. The inside of the scope can being tan, the outside matching the scope.

Any idea of value?

I sold my late type MGZ40 a couple years back....

for $1250 and I had no can. Mine was tan and in pretty good condition. That one looks like a definate repaint as most have noted the screws are filled in, the color is wrong and the manufacturers marks are filled in as well. They should be white like the libelle on the side in one photo. There is another mark on there that should be colored to show which type of grease was used in the assembly. There were 2 or 3 types, tropical, artic and maybe a standard but I don't remember what that would be....the artic type is blue paint, I don't recall the others as most I've seen were obviously intended for russia.
As for value I think $1800 is a little high for a repainted scope but it does have the can. Are there any of the accessory parts in the can like the colored filters, tools or the collimator????

Frank,

Good question on the additional accessories for the scope. I will ask the seller. I would assume he would have had them in the photos he supplied me though...

It looks like a repaint but I am not sure the screws being filled in are a sign of it being messed with. Two of the mgz40 sights that I have also have the screw heads filled in. These scopes are not repainted and all of the screw heads are filled in, even the ones on the body of the scope. However, these scopes are not coded CXN. I have a tan and gray CXN coded scope and they are not filled in.

Well,

I passed on this MGz40.

There will be a better one out there that is more original. I really wanted a MGz34 anyhow.

Cheers and thanks for all the input. As usual, everyone is more then helpful on items like this.
