It looks like an MGz 34 sight. Any manufacture markings on it?

Very nice,fab-thanks for the picture. You had better have some extra barrels around before you let off that extra-long belt! :D Nice set-up. ---bil

That picture is from the web site of the Poulin Auction going on this weekend and the item description is wrong. it is not postwar.

The initial decsription said it was post war. So, did you win it?

I did not win with a absent $800 bid. I Guessed (post war) wrong! IAW because I never saw one so pristine. coded bwt with metal case and supplies. bid on a nice 42 mount but no success there either. Did get some odd MG34 parts and 3 pairs of can rigs.

It certainly did look minty. I couldn't tell with my crappy laptop monitor the shade of green. It sort of looked like the Norway dark green rather than the olivgrun shade. Could be just my monitor though. On mine, you can at least see some red primer showing in some spots.

I found a written description in the lot I won that pertains to a MGz34 "German WWII Army issue telescopic sight for use w/tripod mount for MG-34 #2426;coded bwt; all sand color for use by Afrika Korps; scope is prismatic type w/built in base for dovetail mounting on tripod; 2 spirit levels for horizontal & vertical mounting...rubber eye cup on eyepiece lens; fitting on left eyepiece tube for small light accessory; objective housing marked triangle retangle; sand color metal case w/field gray cloth shoulder strap clip closure; two filters inside lid strap for lens cloth; top lid marked MGZ 40; 2 cloth belt loops on back; metal tips marked LUX Case Marked hrv, WaA30? Shearer (scratched)"

The descriptions were once on 3"x5" index cards and I have photocopies. The color description does not match as I recall (green not sand) and I did see anything cracked. The cover of the can was not marked as a typical "MGZ 40". I suspect the seller had more than one sight... unfortunately the auction house description was less than ideal. The back up data I found is also suspect as to pertaining to the MGz34 sold.
