Crank Fire Adpaters for SA MG42

Post by Cpt_Kirks »

Has anybody with a SA MG42 ever tried a crank fire adapter?

The $20 BMF Activator might work. A GAT trigger adapter probably would, too.

Cpt_Kirks,

I have wondered about the same thing. I have one of the BMF Activators coming (if noveltyguns ever ships it) for my MG42-10/22 rifle. I will try it on my MG42, but I don't think the camming piece will have enough travel to activate my trigger. When/if mine arrives, I will give it try and report back.

The BMF comes with three different sized cam pieces. One of them may work.

BMF Activator

Wonders will never cease; I received my BMF Activator from "Novelty Guns" yesterday. Wow, the quality of this thing is certainly not what my frist one was. The mold must be getting very tired and needs refurbishing.

But, the new one does work in the MG42 10/22 Dress Up Kit gun. I made a quick check last night. I don't think the trigger guard opening in the BMF is large enough for the SA MG42. I will take a closer look this weekend when I have more time, but I don't think it will work

There is a dealer on the 1919A4 Forum, ohioblacksheep, that make a NICE crank for the 1919 that might could be modified for the MG42. From quick thinking, it would need to be mounted forward of the trigger guard, and an adapter made for it to work unless a dedicated one was manufactured. Maybe ohioblacksheep would manufacture a dedicated crankfire for the SA MG42 if he could get enough interest.

What do you guys think about this, could we get enough commitments to have a group buy on this item?????

think we need to get some guns built first, though it is a good idea

Ok, the race is on who will post pics of a working 42 first? Preexsisting guns do not apply. only those built with the assistance of this board.

There are other options. The "GAT" trigger, for one. It's kinda like a grown up bmf. It has a finger cup at the end of the crank that makes it easier to use while holding the gun, or can be used as a regular crank. The GAT works pretty good on my AK (MAK-90). I had it rocking at the Camden shoot with my 75 round drum. There is a review of it on AR-15.com.

Another option (which I haven't used) is another "GAT" I've seen on gatlingguns.com. It looks a lot like the BMF, but has a crank wheel instead of a handle. Also, it is all steel and aluminum, except for the trigger paddle.

The ultimate crank would be some sort of modification to the remote trigger on the Layfette tripod. I had a good discussion at Camden with Tanker about creating something like this for my little MG42/22 Layfette tripod copy.

As for the blacksheep crank, I plan on ordering one for my (soon to be) new 1919 very soon. Got some trees that need cutting down...

Does my MG42/22 count? I hope to have a twin version (with cranks) up and running soon.

No, it's not a MG42. But it costs a lot less and eats .22 shells.

Great men are born in fire, it is the privilege of lessor men to light the flame, no matter the cost
