Re: mg42 3 cut receiver
I think he is refering to the cam peices in the photo.
Re: mg42 3 cut receiver
Lets get this straight. The so called "trunion" is correctly called the camming piece which wraps around the receiver and aids the unlocking of the gun. If anything should be called a "trunion" it would be the extension on the end of the barrel. BTW, none of this translates into German, but what we call the parts here to get our point across.

Re: mg42 3 cut receiver
We have tried to use the term'camming piece' for the machined 2-piece part pictured above. And the 'camming SECTION' refers to the portion of the receiver it attaches to.Similar names, differant items. ---bil

Re: mg42 3 cut receiver
You tell 'em Dan
The literal translation of cam piece from German is cam piece. The M60 has a trunnion, the MG42 does not. Cannons have a trunnion, the MG42 does not.
It's called a cam piece because it has the cams inside it that press on the bolt head rollers to push them inward when the barrel and bolt recoil after firing. The cams force the bolt head rollers inward so that the bolt head will release from the back of the barrel extension.
Da MG42 ain't got no stinkin' trunnion yous guys.
