NEW Mainspring any interest?
NEW Mainspring any interest?
I have a local spring manufacturer who will make a run of new mainsprings for our MGs. They would have the proper crush length of what we need for our S/A build but with the power of the original spring. Thank you modern alloys!
If I could get 60 people to sign up for $6 per spring we can make the "prototype" production happen. Anyone interested in this fix to the mainspring problem?
ETA:
This is for a special production run of the mainspring for our modified MG42's only.
Please mark your interest with a message in this post for easy counting.

That's a great deal !! one of the
biggest problems in cutting down the original
was not having the square edge on the cut end.

This offer is only for the short springs. These are going to be a special run of shortened high power springs only for the S/A 42.
We will have to do a separate run for a full length mainspring. If there is a demand for them, it can certainly be arranged down the road.
Re: NEW Mainspring any interest?
I'd be in for (4) .
could you tell me what the spring demensions would be? And what bolt length you are using? Just so we are on the same page. Spring length, compressed length, and spring lbs. Is it a double wire or single wire? What bolt extension are you using this with (there are a few out there). Thanks.

Re: NEW Mainspring any interest?
WOW !
I was not expecting such a demand for the springs! I have the data sheets at the manufacture and will get back with all the spring dimensions. It would appear that this will go ahead to production.
What I did:
I have a huntsinmntains bolt, a pirate bolt and a mystery made bolt. They all measured different so I took the LONGEST bolt extension out of the three.
I then took 3 modified original springs and measured all of them in every dimension for the data sheet. I took all of this to the manufacture along with 3 unmodified springs with the instructions to make a small spring with the same "crush length" of the cut downs but had the same compressed strength of the original long spring.
The manufacturer said "no problem" it will be X amount for a prototype run of 60 springs....which brings me to the board with the offer.
Now I see two variables:
One- Rear receiver dimensions. If your rear receiver has more than 4 MM of shrinkage I can not guaranty that the spring will work without cutting.
Two- Bolt extensions. The longest bolt extension measured 2.6 inches from the very end of the rail guide of the original bolt to the beginning of where the spring seats on the extension.
No money has been collected and no spring has been produced. If there is a gap in my logic or something I missed, PLEASE tell me now before they are made! I am going to try to talk them into making me 3 or 4 springs to test in the some 7 S/A MG's that I have sitting here. If they work in them, they (should) work for yours.
