Pull up an old ammo crate if you have one

This seems to be the burning question of the day all over the net. Where has all the 8mm ammo gone.
I bought a case of Yugo from SOG last month. It's not listed on their site anymore. Seems as though everyone is fresh out of 8mm.
Another reason why I'm working on a 7.62x54R version. Going to be working on modifying the feed tray tonight. I already made up some dummy cartridges out of some ammo I bought many years ago. I don't even know who made it but it sure shot fine out of the M44. Nice brass cased ammo too. I'm saving my Russki 1980's ammo for a rainy day. Would like to find some more of it. As it is I'm going to stock up on it. Good thing that Russia and former Com-Bloc nations are still making it. Love that PKM.
Does any country still use anything in 8mm now? I can't think of any off the top of my head right now.

Re: 8 mm ammo
I bought some Yugo 8mm ammo at a gunshow 2 weeks ago. Has anyone used 1978 Yugo, brass casing, 8mm ammo?
Re: 8 mm ammo
Beware of the Yugo ammo. They used corrosive primers. After shooting you have to clean your barrel with water. I had some trouble when i used them in my Persian rifle.

Biggest problem with 1950's Yugo is the deep seated primers.
Here is some Romy for $185 shipped per case. http://www.ammo-connection.com/ammo_romanian.html

Re: 8 mm ammo
Thats for a case, 2 tins...760 rounds. Your price looks like the going rate.
Re: 8 mm ammo
I bought one tin,I think I might pick up the other two .If I don't use it,there are plenty of guy that will.It is the shipping costs that get you.
This stuff is heavy! ---bil

Hi..New Guy here..
This thread kind of hit the wall and stopped, but I'd like to know...is there ANY 8mm ammunition available...ANYWHERE? Looks to me like certain agencies saw a boatload of Yugo M53 gun parts coming in, and immediately made sure there would be no ammo for any of them...what's YOUR theory? Love to know, guys..
Where's all the 8mm??

Re: 8 mm ammo
5 million rounds of Yugo 8mm that were going to come in had the sale canceled by the seller. The ammo was worth more as scrap brass than as ammo, so it was sold for scrap. cheap 8mm mauser is a thing of the past, and as long as Iraq is going on, 7.62 x 51 won't be any better.
Re: 8 mm ammo
There is also a lot of it stashed away,full-auto guys got a lot in bulk deals, there are some folks holding on for higher prices.Try the smaller gun stores,I have found some good deals on single tins of Romy, they didn't have a lot.I also sometimes work in a bike shop,I have picked up some from some older guys that didn't need it anymore. It is out there, just not where you can call with the credit card!Good luck! ---bil
