Buffer problem
Buffer problem
I just completed welding my receiver and am assembling the gun. Everything was is going together great until I got to the buffer and I cant get it to go in. Ive tried to grind off a little bit of it with no success. Has anyone had this problem that could give me a suggestion. It is a yugo buffer in a german receiver if that matters. Thanks

what do you mean by it wont go in? Does the buffer go in, but won't turn?
You need to grind just forward of the buffer cams in the rec. so the buffer can turn.
That area is usually where the welding is....so it usuall nees the weld ground and rec. ground slots so when the buffer pivots or turns it has clearance.
It's too late for me here to post a picture to be more clear. I can tomarrow.

could be. It doesn't take much of an interferance to stop it from turning. Can you see where it is hitting.smokinggun wrote:There is no weld in this area. I just wonder if its because its a yugo buffer.
This is not an easy area to grind. I have to use a dremil and a small cut off wheel to get in and make it clear.
this is the best pic I have at the moment.

I tried all that marking stuff and what we did was to cut a small strip of paper to fit in the slot where the clip goes to lock the buffer (on the underside of the receiver) and slip it in and then insert the buffer and twist until it binds. The paper acts as a guage so you can pull out the paper and see the rub mark on it, then you know where it binds and you can dremil it because you know exactly where the bind is.
I had a similar problem. I had to grind a fit the buffer. It would turn so far and stop. I kept at it until the buffer seated correctly. Just a little bit of weld can cause a lot of grinding and fitting even when you use a copper backer at the joint. The receiver and buffer are German so it wasn't the buffer that was the problem.
While I'm at it, are human beings hardwired to type "teh" rather than "the"? It seems I do that a lot and I've seen others do it also.
