BOOSTER REPAIR SLEEVE DIMENSIONS

Post by SHARPSSHOOTER5090 »

I know Wise Lite makes a very high quallity booster repair sleeve for around $149.00 but I would like to make my own. Having machined from Centry castings 2 FALs, one in 300 WSM and one in 7.62 Nato I have the equipment and machine experance to do my own. I do not intend to build them for sale or compete with the people building and selling them now. I just want to make the rebuild parts I need my self. I intend to scratch build a receiver also. I have posted else where pictures of my scratch built Mac 10 SA and scratch built 7.62x39 belt feed AK-47 based SA.

So, if any one has a drawing of the booster repair sleeve I would be very much interested.

Barrel Bushing Slot Position

Post by SHARPSSHOOTER5090 »

Little Rhody
At what position does the narrow slot go when this is welded to the barrel shrould? 0 degrees top dead center, 90 degrees, 180 degrees, or 270 degrees looking from the butt stock to the muzzle or is it at some other clocking.

Thanks

I checked my original barrel bushing and the narrow slot is at the 225 degree position.

I know this positioning is important for barrel removal....but how can one be stated at 180 degrees and mine be at 225 degrees?

Is the indexing of the barrel guide sleeve different on the MG42 vs the MG3 ?

I'd say 225 degrees is a more acurate description that mine.

Barrel Bushing Slot Position

Post by SHARPSSHOOTER5090 »

Thanks for the info. There is a member a few miles from me that has one so before I weld the barrel bushing in he said I could look at his to confirm the 225 degress. That puts a slot at 45 degrees either side of top dead center and bottom center.

I may get to the point where I don't have to ask questions to get mine built, ........but I dought it. I still got my scratch built receiver belt feed AK-47 to finish. Like I said before, I will post more pictures of it if and when I make progress.

When you look at the bearing from the front of the gun, the narrow slot is at 45 degrees to the lower right. Slip your barrel bearing into it, and you can see right away which way it has to face so that the barrel can come out of the receiver ;)

That is always a more comfortable position, looking from the trigger end! :D That is also how all auto referances are made ie left front is on the DRIVERS left. ---bil

Thanks for the print of the barrel sleeve. My new lathe just arrived yesterday. I will spend this weekend installing it. this might be the first part I make with it.

HC:

Ya, but....

It's easier to see the slots from the front...before the barrel's in, of course :-P

When I get some time I will try to make one of these. I need to get an indexing head for my shaper so I can cut the keyways.
