MG34/42 Belts
I have a bunch of belts if anyone is in need. Believe these are post war, no markings, blued, in new condition. Price is 7.00 ea. Shipping is 2.75 for the first belt and .75 for each additional. I also have German post-war steel ammo cans that hold 8mm. They have surface rust on the outside but are new on the inside w/a good rubber gasket. They are 7.00 + shipping. They weigh 6 pounds. LMK if you are interested.

MG34/42 Belts
They are 50 round belts, excellent condition and yes they are like the one in the photo. Once again there are no markings on the connection tab and they are blued. I don't know if they are post war, 308 or 8mm. They work fine for both according to other people I have sold them to. I bought my first MG42 in 1977 for 600.00. Original belts were 1.00 cans 5.00, drums 15.00 etc...
Belts
I may be wrong, but didn't the Germans stop adding the manufacturers code and date to the very late war belts? Also, they added 3 or 4 "dimples" inside for the round to ride on instead of the front to back ridge as shown in the photo. I thought this all happened about the same time. As I said, I may be wrong, but I sure seem to remember reading this.

I have dealt w/ Bob before and find him to be a trustworthy individual. I cannot identifiy these belts as wartime production or even German because there are no codes or markings. As far as I know there is no definitive work out there that ID's every belt variation there is. I have been collecting MG's since 1977 and while I don't claim to know everything I have seen a lot of different and unique accessories in that time. I have been selling on ebay since 1999 so you can check me out there. In addition I have been in the Military Surplus Business since 1978 and worked/managed for companies that, at the time, were bigger than Sarco, Sherwood/Northridge, National/Federal Ordnance and running 6 page adds in SGN back when it was published 2 times a month. Yes I have been around the block!drooling idiot wrote:RTG advertises brand new 50 rd. belts for 6.50.

Belts
I may be all wet, but the belts "glassmountains" has for sale sure sound like late war belts to me. Again, I may be wrong, but most of the post war Yugo belts seem to have an apprx. 1/8" diam hole in the center of each link. I don't remember seeing this in the German links. All this is from memory, so don't blast me to bad if I am wrong, LOL!

The belts have a square tab. In reference to the photo above the links have no rib and and a larger hole in the center of the link. These came out of an aircraft salvage yard. The owner said he bought them at a local airbase auction about 20 years ago!ak47dennis wrote:From my experience I have found that all post war belts that I have seen the little tab that would be used to hook the gurts together is a triangle shaped wedge rather the a square on my WW2 dates belts.

Got belts & cans.......
Two days ago,got 15 belts and a couple of german style steel ammo cans from Glassmountains........Belts are perfectly new, and do have that little hole in the center of each link.
Recent article by Mr.JF Legendre in the March 2005 issue of 'Small arms Rewiew', titled, "Feeding The Tiger", all about ammo belts for the MG-34/42, is a great brief on these belts.............No, he does not show any photos of belts with this tiny hole; What the hell, for me, and running into a re-enactment with the mg-34 and 20-25 belts of blanks, I can not beat the price and quality, for, what will probably result in some of these belts being stepped on and disappearing in the mud..ha! (on the Russian Front !)
The cans are sturdy, steel, clean and sealed on the inside, and resemble the WWII german type can; but not good enough to pass the familar eye of the average re-enactor.....They are nice cans, yes, and I will paint-up and use to transport 8mm rifle blanks to battles, but not to go out in the field........sort of trying to use the smaller post-war german cans designed for the 308 round; Just not right, & too obvious.........Just letting everyone know. .........
