MG42 tripod dates ?

Post by Bossman »

I noticed that Orin's MG42 tripod is dated 1939, did the Germans convert MG34 tripods for use with 42's when the MG42 was adopted ?

Just curious..

In the past few years I've seen a couple cradles (the gun carrier part of the Lafette) for sale which are specifically for converting the 34 Lafette to a 42 Lafette. They were original German parts, so having an earlier dated sled (upper part of the Lafette) with an MG42 mount is not inccorect.

The MG34 was still in production to the end of the war, but where possible, the 34 was replaced by a 42 so it only makes sense to have conversion parts for the accessories.
