why even bother!!!
I can understand wanting a genuine MG42 but why bother with this? It has 2 bids why!!! After the postal sevices have had their way with it all you will get is box of rust, assuming the atf dont get their knickers in a knot about illegal imports. Its Item number: 6635135321 on eban. And yes i do spend far too much time on eban

Great men are born in fire, it is the privilege of lessor men to light the flame, no matter the cost

Because bluing with salts does not protect the metal at all, you always need to keep it coated with oil but after time the oil is washed by moisture. Imagine if that MG was painted with duracoat from inside and out it would probably look much better than that. When I was in Croatia in 2002 they had WW2 memorial park there and there was a armored transporter with MG42 mounted on it. The park was raised in early 70s and that MG looked good with minor rust and it was exposed to snow and rain for so many years. All because it was painted thick. I duracoat all my builds.
Nice addition??
I have a display board of dug weapons from the Elsenborn ridge area in belgium; Namely an M-1 rifle , mauser 98K bayonets both US and german and a broomhandle; also pieces of ordnance and barbed wire-- The stuff was dug by the current wave of diggers and I also have a display of stuff from the Wallerscheid crossroads area-- If you don't get this stuff and put it up it will be gone forever-- A historical display is better than a rust pile that no one cares about--
With a little history of where it was dug I would buy it; but I am a little wary of the Customs people as the last time I got a box of dug stuff someone literally had a panic attack when they x-rayed the box--
You guys should all know that the USG Customs X-rays almost everything that comes into the USA --
