Buffer question
Buffer question
I was wondering just what, exactly, holds the buffer and stock in the receiver. Mine seems to just pull straight out, even with that little catch thing installed. It will go in straight then turn in either direction about 1/4 inch, but that doesn't look right.
Also, I tried installing the barrel last night and it's very hard to get it to seat. It takes a lot of jiggling and pushing to get the barrel door to close. Am I missing something? This is getting really frustrating.

Maybe some others here can input about this also. This is the best way I can explain it. Buffer when fully installed meaning in and turned 1/4 counterclockwise is should be in its upright correctly installed position. The buffer catch bar should be in the notch that is on the buffer. The lips on the buffer are resting against the metal spacers (dont know what proper name is) that are on the top and bottom inside the reciever. When it is installed upright and locked in the buffer catch, does it pull out from there? That is what I am understanding.
About the barrel door not locking in, look at the end of the recuperator when you try to install the barrel. It may be hitting the end or on the trunnion piece. Might be a clearance issue. Keep us posted!

Is it a reweld or a BRP rear section. The brp rear section dosen't have the locking cams installed.
just re-read your description and i'll assume it's a reweld..
drop the buffer in 90* from it's final orientation
rotate it 90* untill it locks

I dont have the recoup or rails installed yet. That might be the problem. As far as the buffer goes, I might have to take a little off the back end to let it go in far enough to fully turn that 1/4 turn.
Haseo8up, where in Albq are you? I just moved from there to Vermont last year. I lived up in Sandia Park. Sure do miss the weather there right about now.

VERMONT..... now that is a change in weather! I'm here on the west side near Rio Rancho. Weather has been nice all winter long around the 50's at day and 30's at night. Very little snow even at the Sandia's.
Look at those buffer cams close and figure out the fit. It may be very little metal you have to remove. Since you dont have a reweld and have a brp which I have never seen, look closely at the barrel door area to see what may be binding. Reason I say, you dont have rails and recup installed so there is something there causeing it.

You guy's are amazing. I just went down and actually watched the buffer turn and found the small square cutout on the side of the receiver was where it was hitting when the buffer was rotated. The dremel tool fixed it and all is well.

none123, the receiver is new made from BRP. I'm thinking that it's gonna need some tweeking to get it to work smoothly, but i can't see behind the barrel locking piece to see if something's interfering with it. Your pics of the stock and buffer are outstanding. I'm guessing that the little catch thing keeps the buffer from rotating when installed?

i'd venture to guess it will work fine after you oil the recup.
