barrel extension question

I have 5 8mm barrels and barrel extensions and I was checking the headspace on them last night. All the extensions are marked with a 5 digit seial number with a slash and a single digit i.e., 54281/1. I'm assuming the 5 digit number was the serial number of the gun but what does the last digit represent?

Since I am rather new here, I would be interested to know as well.

Barrels are numbered to the gun by serial-number on the gun........then either a slash / ...or dash - ......followed by either a number or letter telling the gunner which barrel he has for that gun...
IE: number 1,2,3, and sometimes a 4........or A, B, C, ...etc.......they relate to the spare-barrels for changing out during firing.
