When did BATF approve the homebuilt Semi 42?

I am trying to do some research, does anyone know when the BATF approved the first semi-auto design of the Mg42 for homebuilders, (ie., were there any back in the 1990s)?
Or please direct me to where I may find that information.
Thanks

"for homebuilders"
That phrase makes the question unanswerable.
The BATFE has never and would never state "this is how to make your homemade XXX firearm".
They approve businesses designs for sale in interstate commerce and they will review and inspect a submitted sample for legality of a homemade gun.
Once a design or sample is approved by BATFE as being legal then the submitting business can produce that design for retail sale or an individual can use the design as a basis to produce a copy for his own use.
As far as the first approved design I believe it was for BRPs semi. Blanksguy has a lot of "historical knowledge" about the SA42 maybe he'll comment.

Drooling Idiot, excellent information.
I guess I should put a finer point on my question then, does anyone know when the first legal semi 42 was built by a homebuilder?
From your information it looks like it would have been around the time people learned what BRP did to achieve the proper sanction.
Hmmmm, very interesting, at least for me...

Not sure if this info is of any value to you, but if the BRP guy was the pioneer of this process, it looks like his ATF design approval was stamped April 1, 2004.

Also the only way BRP got the approval was with an entirly new receiver.

But Pirate’s design is copied over and over. Or I missing the point.

Once again (and I feel I am beating a dead horse here) an individual (not a business) may build a rifle for their own use (ANY rifle, BP, Bolt or Semi) without any permission from BATFE. This is in their own regs. Sale of such requires manufacturers markings per regs.

THANKS ALL,
I was just curious because a guy I know, who is rather more of a blow-hard, claimed he built a semi-42 back in the early 1990s.
It seemed a little bit of a tall story, for my own curiosity it became a useless piece of trivia that I wanted to uncover.

There are some restrictions such as it can't be an open bolt design or easily converted to FA. The designs such as Pirate’s etc, meet the BATF's requirements.
