Okay guys I let my subscription to Shotgun News lapse, so many of you likely already know this, but I was just on the website of IO (
www.IOinc.us) clicked on the latest “shotgun News ad†and saw in the middle of the page purported M53 parts kits (in 308) WITH receivers (how much of it I do not know) for $699 due in October.
Probably the last chance for those waiting to do a build, pull out the credit card, and get on that waitlist.
Also for those that play with Aks they are advertising US made ak barrels ($80)
Happy Hunting

Thanks for the heads up.
I noticed that the prices are "starting at" $699. I suppose they will set the prices according to the condition of the kit, and how badly mangled the receivers are. I'm looking forward to seeing some actual pics of the kits.
The ad says that the kits include "life" Steyer 308 barrels. Is this a misprint? Wonder what they intended to say, or am I missing something?
If anybody here buys one of these kits, be sure to let us know and post some pics of them.

Okay it appears they will actually be in during the First week of November, but you can get waitlisted now. There is going to be a very small supply (maybe 100) and they are doing their best to prevent stores and other distributors from hording them with large orders.
If any of you are looking to sell a parts kit do not worry, with IO only getting about 100, this will be a very short period of available inventory and then prices will climb back up. Plus most of these are advertised as postwar though there is no doubt that a few WW2 receivers will be in the mix and will sell for more, that will be a very small number.
Garry the “life†barrel description is due to a translation error. Like myself, the owner is a fellow Kraut and he was trying to convey they have “live†or non-demilled barrels with each kit.
Also the Ak barrels are Mossberg not Green Mountain, which is kind of curious.
Oh’ and no I do not work for Inter Ordnance or any of its subsidiaries.

NEVERMIND...I FOUND IT....NOW I HAVE A DILEMMA. IVE SEARCHED HIGH AND LOW TO FIND TWO KITS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. THE QUESTION IS: IS THIS AN OFFER WORTHY OF GETTING RID OF AN EXCELLENT CONDITION PARTS KIT TO GET THE I.O. KIT? IM NOT SURE IM WILLING TO GET RID OF MINE JUST TO HAVE THEM SEND ME ONE THAT IS IN AVERAGE CONDITION BUT HAS A COMPLETE RECEIVER. I THINK I WOULD RATHER JUST USE A COLD STEEL OR WISELITE RECEIVER

REDRIVER-WHY ARE YOU YELLING!!!!

Garry,I also thought it was a mis-spelling-I thought they meant 'fife' barrels, that is what the barrel looked like for my PPSH41! ---bil

before shipping and crap, my Kit was $400, w/o the rear receiver. These with the rear receivers are essentially $700. I think i'm better off with just getting a coldsteel, as it amounts to practically the same value. However, this seems like a good price, for anyone currently looking for a kit, but not somthing i'd bother with selling my current kit for to buy.

All excellent points and there are mixed reviews out there by people not happy with the condition of stuff purchased from IO, I have ALWAYS had good luck with them, but this surplus stuff is luck of the draw, it is amazing what qualifies as “NRA good condition†with milsurp rifles/parts kits. like "Bils" fife barrel
If car dealers used that same standard, they would be run out of town on a rail.

In this use, "NRA" simply means "Not Really Accurate" in describing condition...

its threads such as these that make me go home and look at the parts kits i have and go......

. i was very selective with what i bought. I even bought one off of here from falspecialist that is simply unbelieveable. If he has any more parts kits that are in "excellent" condition, i would highly recomment buying them. I too am in the boat of figuring out what to do with the rear receiver portion. I couldnt decide so i spent my money on two great .308 barrels for my mg3 clone.

Going 308 is a great choice.
I kept 8mm for purely historic reasons but it is not the logical choice. Last I knew, German surplus 308 ammo is plentiful, excellent quality and relatively cheap, barrels are easy to obtain, and the parts fairly inexpensive to do the switch.

does anybody know if you can cycle the wolf .308 ammo through these m53's? if they could be force fed this crap it would no doubt spare a little $$$$ for someone that frequently shoots the damned things. I have a hookup on the wolf .308 at wholesale for bulk orders....its worth a shot

"NRA good" relates to firearms, not scrap surplus. IO's calling these "NRA good" is misapplication. How can something cut with a torch and thus rusted be "good"? Bull.
The question comes down to what remains of the reciever, where the torch cuts are, and how they were done.

exactly! and one of the reasons i have been so selective with my kit buys is because the cuts vary so greatly. There is still an excellent or "preferred" cut on the yugo kits and a cut on the front shroud that looks as if my 2 year old took after it with a torch. if you look hard enough you can find one that has enough metal behind the rear sight leaf to work with....if im not mistaken someone in the kantine had several yugo's for sale that were still in the cosmo and looked good.
