Looks too good to be true. Look inside the cup to see if there are numbers stamped in the steel. If it has the part number stamped in it, it's post war. I would have expected a wire wrap around the cup area.

They did make wood stocks without the wire or metal sleeve. What I would look for is other WaA markings on the metal parts. Since the wood is marked, the metal parts should be marked.
My experience is that late war items may have few to no markings. I personalty have never seen wood stocks marked with no metal parts marked.
Disclaimer........ I learn new things all the time.

junge,
Doing this by "memory".....so bear with me......
I recall that there are a few items to check.....but do not recall exactly which type "nut" is suppose to be at the bottom of the "cup" nor which nut is on the release-pin (inside).
Also......something to do with the outside end of the release-pin.
With that said.......be very carful of the reproductions coming out of "old" Europe as far as those markings. Many new stamps have been produced to mimic original markings.
You are looking at what is suppose to be an original WWII "early" MG42 butt-stock-assembly.........and the warnings from others are valid. It looks too "new".......so I would say that I would not pay more than what a good reproduction would be worth.
Last.......you being in the UK, have you thought about posting this question on the French MG42/MG34 Board with photos (?).
They are located at:

They have an MG42 Parts-Section that will show examples.

Not an original wood stock, but exceptionally well duplicated as far as shape. Don't know if the markings are totally accurate to original shape and size, but at least the Waffenamt portion is in the right place (though the size of the eagle is suspect). Good repro stocks like this are very hard to come by. They have value in that you can use them on your MG in the field without worrying about dents and scuffs ruining an original stock. I recommend using it as a shooting stock, and putting the original in the safe. Nothing like a worry-free afternoon of shooting !
