Trouble with the safety on my Wise Lite Gen 2 M53

Post by radar645 »

Need help re installing the safety on my Wise Lite Gen 2 M53
I removed the grips on the grip stick to clean the grips and while the grips were off the safety bar moved
and a small pin dropped out ( Looks like a tiny barbell |---| ) Can anyone tell how this goes back together ?
How do I remove the whole grip stick from the receiver ? It looks like there is a pin you punch out but I tried tapping it but didn't move. I don't want to screw anything up so I stopped . Any info is appreciated, Thanks

Yours being a Gen 2 could be different from mine which is a very early Gen 1 Wiselite. That said, to take off the grip stick, make sure it is unloaded and with the hammer back, take a punch of some kind and tap lightly the end of the grip pin that looks like a slot for a screw driver. You don't need to turn it and you don't want the punch to drop into the slot (this may spread it), you just want to tap in bluntly from the top. This will knock out the inner pin, the outer pin simply slides out.

Push the grip forward and tilt it and it should come right off. On BRP types you need to turn it, WLA's just go forward to slip out of the receiver slot, at least the early type I have does.

The pin you mention that looks like a bar bell just prevents the safety bar under it from going to high when the trigger is pulled. The only thing that keeps it from falling out are the grip panels (sort of like 10/22 pins). I put a piece of scotch tape over my pin just to keep it from falling out when the panels are removed (as you have found).

A really good upgrade on these, if yours doesn't already have them is a set of KNS trigger and hammer pins. I put a set on mine. The BRP grips come with them BTW, not sure if the GEN 2 WLA's do or not. These guns like to break hammer pins, so it's good to a keep a few spares in your gun bag. So far I haven't broke any KNS pins though.

If you don't have one, another thing I might suggest is making a grip screw removal tool. I took and old flat screw driver a ground a slot into it for the slotted screw nuts.

If you need any more help give us a shout.

Thanks for the info, I appreciate it. That puts my mind at ease that I didn't screw-up the safety.
Now I need to work on the 308 conversion, the gun runs perfect using Romanian 8mm steel case ammo.
But I want to run 308 and I'll maybe run through 2 rounds then I get a light primer strike. :D
