MG42/59 missing part?

Hi all, if you been following another thread you shall have noted that I recently received my MG42/59 after a long wait for the licence.
I have not managed to get to the range just yet. This will happen on Saturday. I have one concern however?!
I seem to be missing a part. I stripped the gun to clean and lube and discovered that the "recoil booster" I hope that's the correct term?! Is missing! If I screw off the flash hider/cone I find a barrel guide with a cut out but no third part. Is this a huge problem?
Take a look at the following photo.

Im missing the piece on the bottom right. I however also noted that this piece is also missing from the MG3 seen in my other thread, however the MG3 fires with out an issue.
All help appreciated. Regards

The MG3 type booster is a 2 piece assembly rather than the 3 piece of the MG42. Its fine and will work great. It was a way of simplifying the booster assembly. So if you have the MG3 type booster/flash hider you're fine. If you have the MG42 style flash hider than you'll be needing the booster cone which is one term for the internal part. Since you don't show a picture of what you have its hard to give you any real help with that.....

I shall post pictures shortly. Im hoping that because the gun was built in 1972 that it has the latter setup. Although it is still designated 42/59

Like the others said, the MG3 does not use a booster cone, its built into the flash hider. I suspect your MG42/59 is similar. In fact it looks like it's built right into the fixed barrel bushing. Interesting design. Cool photos BTW.

Fantastic news!!! She runs. I was suppose to wait until the range day tomorrow but couldn't do it, so I decided to take the day off and go shoot.

Great to hear
Did we mention we like vids
I'm glad it worked out for you.
Just out of curiosity, what is the ammo situation like there in SA? Can you buy surplus SA 7.62 (.308)?
Sadly I'm down to my last 2 cases of SA...that was some good surplus ammo.

Congratulations spiggs. You have a beautiful example of a unique variation of the mg42. Hope you enjoy it and thanks for sharing the pictures. We love to see all the different stuff out there.

Ammo is plentiful here in SA, however its very expensive! SA surplus cost us around $0.50. a round. I think you pay a lot less over there. Which obviously annoyes the hell out of us as its produced here. At the moment there is a lot of Chinese surplus floating around here.
We use to get a lot of Porto FNM surplus which is great ammo, but it seems to be running out.
Ran the 42/59 back to back with the MG3 today and had a blast.
A noticeable difference in the ROF, timed mine at a little under 900/m and timed the MG3 at a little over 1300/m
Ran the 34 as well and found it to be even slower than the 42/59, I think however that the 8mm we had was very old.

No cheap surplus left here in the US. Even the 50's Yugo and 80's Romanian are going for close to 50 c/rd now. The days of 900 round Yugo cases for $50 are long gone.
