I recently was tasked with building a YUGO MG 53. Have a good parts kit from what I can see but have many questions on the reciever that was supplied. I just need to be pointed in the right direction and to maybe find a few links to prints or a manual maybe....Something I can look at to see how this thing goes. with no completed model to compare it to im spinning tires here....ANY and ALL help will be greatly appreciated

It looks like you are starting with a m53 front barrel shroud and a brp bolt carrier and possible brp gripstick. Not sure on the rear receiver.

hey guys, thanks for taking a peek at the pics i posted. You are right, it is a brp bolt and gripstick set-up. The reciever came from Lousianna. I have another kit. bolt and grip stick are from brp but this reciever was demilled and is in 3 pieces. The far back half has been tacked on and has markings that i cant really make out...4 digit # ending with letters: BH...I lined up the holes with the rails, clamped together to get an idea of how bad this is going to be to try and weld it together...here are the pics...tell me what you think. I just really want to see some pics of a build. The ones on this forum all dont load or are gone for some reason and the BRP website shuts down my internet explorer when I try to view the manual and build PDF's...WTH already...

On this last receiver, the tacked on part looks like one of the receiver parts that are currently being sold from converted .308 receivers. The part in front of it is what bothers me. Without rivet hole dimples. If it's a brp part go with it. If a cold steel solution part might be harder.
Try calling or pm-ing Brian at brp about the files and he might email them to you.

heres what I got so far. I used the 1/8th in plates to line everything up. I used the holes for the rails to make my jig. Everything looks good from what I can tell. the rec's looked like 2 diff widths, but once I got them togeher it looked like it got much better. the reason Im using this rec first is because there are no holes for the rails, no slots in the bottom for grip stick, etc etc etc....As i stated before this is my rookie build and I REALLY APPRECIATE you men taking the time to help me out! If theres anything I can do in return just drop me a line via email or call me....I have a shop up here in MA and am capable of returning favors;)

Check your email for brp's pdf that you were trying to download.
And double check the measurements on this as the rails can lead you off in size.

Scott,
I second Rockers caution, DO not base the re-weld on a set of used rails! Get a set of prints and build to specific points on the receiver. "D" cut out, bolt hole for front recoup mount, cam section locators, etc. Also pay more attention to how straight/smooth the inside is, not the outside!
After assembly it's tough to work inside the shell.

Hey men, So i did what you said and went over the "rough fit" of my pieced together receiver. the problem I'm having now is that the BRP drawings don't give an over all length the recouperator needs to be shortened to...it shows how much to take off...I think. But without having an over all length how do I know how much to shorten the recoup. everything is right on so far, but now I'm ready to start rough fitting the internals.....

If talking about overall mg42 length it is listed on this website in several places. Use the search button and seek and you should find. Also note that a wiselite rebuild is longer than a normal rebuild.

I'm just looking for the either the overall length of the recoup before shortening it, or the over length after shortening it. If you look at Brian drawings you'll see it doesn't show the length. its really kind of confusing...Iv got the gun fitted together, the top cover fits perf, the lengths all match the drawings...so now im on to the internals...and i need to shorten the recoup to fit so i can move on

You have a MG3 recuperator, note the "tail". Normally this is not cut. I don't know maybe it could be cut and welded? Look at the following

Morning Scott,
I'll take a run at your recoup questions. It performs the same function in s/a and f/a MG42s. It must be trimmed to clear the f/a blocker bar or stud, whatever you have, also the sheet metal upright edge opposite the spring tube may need to be trimmed down to clear the s/a cocking bar on the converted bolt. The length of the recoup is determined by the distance from the forward mounting hole to the face of the rear supporting bar in the rec. See the "Recoup stickie"..
The black arrow points out this bar. One of your receiver sections has the cam opening and front recoup bolt hole intact, this sets the recoup front correctly in relation to the barrel. Your assembled rear will locate the rear supporting bar in relation to the front hole. With the front bolt CORRECTLY installed in the recoup it should be a nice snap in fit. The recoup should not need to be shortened unless the rear rec. is off spec.
This is my observation on war time parts, other work may be required on BRP,Coldsteel, or Wiselite parts.
Wow, pretty wordy, Guess I'll take my pills and pet the cat now.

Scott, OOPS!
Looking at your photos you do not have the grip stick mount attached, after you mount it my rant may make more sense. The mounting holes and cutout seem to be done on your rear section. the grip stick mount has the locating tab for recoup as part of it. Again this is for war time production parts, not post war or after market replacements.

An interesting point, unless you have a lot of small parts that are not in your pics you are missing a few things like the buffer tabs and the gripstick mounting bracket which the end of the recup goes up against.
You really need to take a long look at the stickies area and double check you parts or more pics if we are going to try to keep helping you build this for someone else and charge him.

I absolutely have all the parts i need brother. As i stated ion the last post I need an overall length AFTER the recoup is shortened. if you look at Brian's drawing its labeled MG42 short recoup mod. here are the pics of the grip stick mounting piece, the recouperator, the buffer tabs and a few good pics of how much longer the recoup is than what i need it to be and also showing the recoup touching the barrel as it should be. if there is anything missing from what iv shown please advise...
