im curious why no one has replaced the mg3 bipod with a m1913 rail that connects to a tango or veltor TangoDown Advanced Combat Bipod.
The bipod kind of stinks and its heavy. . . .

Probably cause the mount method for the existing bipod is so darn nifty. Since I didn't build my M53 up, wouldn't have considered mounting a rail for a bipod - it had already come with the stock quick-disconnect bipod mount. I suspect if you did want to add a rail, it would also give you more options on where on the forward shroud you want to mount the bipod, which could be a good thing.
Here's my Frankenstein thought - could you modify the mount rail you are thinking of to use the existing MG-42 quick disconnect mount spots, and just have a full length rail underneath? Not trying to start a holy-war about stock vs tacticool, but just to allow for forward/back mounting on an aftermarket bipod.

While your at it why not shorten the shroud length add a rail on top of the feed cover for
a reddot?

I have thought about this with a 53 kit...... but a war time 42 I'd keep whole.....

I'm guessing you don't own a 1919A6........

Because the mg42 bipod is one of the best designs ever.

dude don't screw and mar up the feed cover. Put a solid bar of aluminum into the rear sight base. Thread and tap a m1913 rail into the open holes of the rear sight base. Now put your totally cool aimpoint add optic of the week here to wiselight semi and you're set

hi anyone have any guidence on how I can mount a m1913 rail to the bipod stud on a mg42 ? Trying to find a solution other than buying a bipod then using a sawzall to cut off the mount.
