Price check: Reweld all original MG42 Semi

Post by bertbacharat »

Hello,

I've been out of the scene for a while, but what is the price for a rewelded all original mg42 in semi auto with all the mods done. I have a build about 95% complete and am thinking about selling. I looked and couldnt find any recent prices. Thank you.

Most likely the answer you get is your really not supposed to sell what you build unless you have an FFL. Building a gun is legal but only for your personal use without an ffl. Also I wouldnt want the possible liability issues with a reweld. Even though im confidant in my abilities I wouldnt sell my 42. I mean Sh*t does happen and only takes a second to ruin someones life.

bertbacharat,
For prices......depending on what you have, condition of parts, what type welding was used to weld the pieces together, if it has the finish applied ...... if the finish is the "spray-on" (lower-$) or blued-finish (higher-$), you could try GunBroker.com and look at the prices for a semi-aotu WiseLite SA42 or M53.....then lower the price somewhat as their guns seem to be slightly overpriced in today's market.

There are some variables to consider such as accessories that go with it, the next owner may want to finish it themselves, where the semi-only parts came from, ......several variables that you might want to consider prior to posting it for sale. The economy is another area to consider. Clear photos posted with your ad will help......

......and, as I have been looking for a good project SA42, you can also contact me at:
Blanksguy2001@chartermi.net
....with some clear photos of what you have and price.

Legal is one thing, not going there. Open market price could go from $1,800 to $3,000. That said 95% and how original is it WW2 parts etc. Bolt redone, new fcg, and?

Seen almost there sell for $2,000 area and ones with papers etc sell for $3,000.

That's a price range. Good Luck with the fine tuning.

Welcome back, if even briefly :D

There is a WLA-built Mg42 (not M53 barrel shroud) on GB right now, bidding is up to $3.5K with 2 days left, with a rather different paint scheme.

Now re-welds are a bit thorny, there were a handful of excellent 07s during the boom time (2005-2008), if they did it=good, then again some buyers will not care, they just want in on a German parts kit.

If you go the auction choice, then who knows? Since your location lists you as "NY" it would not hurt to brush-up on NYS General business law regarding the NYS 1994 AWB. This will iron-out your options, but-probably not to your liking, however knowledge is power.

as mentioned above, you don't want to go around selling a re-weld semi auto, trust me it's no fun talking to the ATF. It really is a grey area. You can build it for yourself... once you no longer want it you can sell it...kind of.. it's really a grey area. Every semi auto re-weld I built and then wanted to sell I just saw cut it again. A nice all WW2 MG42 with semi auto parts is desirable, your looking around 2K
