Wise Lite MG53 sights

Post by Brassjunkie »

I'm new here and wondering if anyone can help me out.
Just got a new Wise Lite semi MG53 and it shoots about 7 feet high with the iron sights and I can't adjust it any lower.
It appears to have the Yugo MG53 front sight post with a regular sight blade and the Yugo night sight 2000meter rear assembly.
Do I need the front night sight to get the right elevation? or
Will the MG3 rear sight work, as it appears to be lower? or
As someone suggested, fabricate a front sight blade?
I'm open to suggestions.....
thanks

how far out were you shooting? the shortest range its supposed to be calibrated for is about 200 yards. being a welded shroud it could be off. best bet would be file down the front sight, or replace front sight blade with a shorter one of theres one made.

Another thing that could be done is to buy another front sight blade, after everything has been tried, and file it down. I'm hoping to have front sight blades avaible after the first of the year. My thoughts are to have a replacement original as a back up if I'm going to start in filing anything down.

Actually, unless he's shooting it upside down, he needs a TALLER front sight.

Thanks guys for the responses....

Embalmer, I was shooting at 200 & 300 yards aiming at the bottom of the berm which was over 7 feet high and hitting at the top if not going over.

42rock, The sight post needs to be HIGHER...I improvised a sight post and extrapolated the front sight blade that is around .250 to .300 higher to get in the ballpark. From pictures I've seen the Yugo front night sight appears to be higher than what I currently have....being the rear sight is also a Yugo night sight. Im still thinking of trying an MG3 1200 meter rear sight assembly. Let me know if you come up with any front sight blades that are higher......I also looking for an oversized booster cone around 14mm.

Coolt, I havent tried to shoot this upside down yet.....bet it would kinda look like a brass fountain!! LOL

Thought about this over the weekend and noted that I followed Embalmer's lead and that the front sight needs to be higher, not filed down. So add a piece of gum or something to the front sight. Or get spare front sight and weld on to it.
Or if you feel that the night sight rear is to high then get regular rear sight. However double check before you go that route. I have both regular and night sight rears, I'll try to dig out a set and compair them. On a sight change out the rear sight is a lot easier to change.
On the cone a lot of folks just drill it out. I have heard that from several major folks.

42rock, Thanks for the info...let me know what you find out about the rear sight height, I'd appreciate that.

Sorry due to several things Christmas included have not been able to dig out night sights and compair but hopefully will get to that Sunday. Did see picture on BRP dvd and "think" that the night sights are taller. really need to measure. I also think that the simple fix would be to pull the pin and replace the complete rear sight till you either get a front night sight or weld and add to the front sight. I have extra front sight blades and just the rear sight flip up piece and complete rear sights. Would (of course) be interested in talking trade (plus extra) regular for night sight.

Brassjunkie: I had exactly the same problem with my semi-auto M53 on a Wiselite receiver, which was custom built by Bob Naess at Black River Militaria. Bob reworked/raised the front sight blade by some 0.100 inches and registered the piece at 300 meters. I have not had a chance to take it to the range yet, but I'm sure it will shoot to Point Of Aim now; he does excellent work and I highly recommend him. BTW, in the course of this little adventure, I discovered that the piece is sensitive to different lots of ammunition and the to the headspace of these lots in different barrels. Neither of these cases caused me to shoot 3 feet over my targets, but such information might be helpful to you.

FYI Problem solved! I bought an MG3 1200 meter sight and it matches up with the elevation and zeros at 200 yards. Anyone needing a slightly used rear 2000 meter night sight?

So the solution was the M3 front site?

You kept the Yugo rear night site?

To noonxnoon, yes the solution was the M3 REAR sight. I left the front sight alone and replaced the rear with the M3. It appears the Yugo Night sight (rear) is higher than the M3, which I assume is to match with a FRONT Night Sight which I do not have.

My next issue is, how do you get these to run semi auto in 308?

Thanks for the info about the rear sight fix.

As for shooting 308, just need:

* 308 barrel
* M3 booster cone - note, don't need the internal piece for the booster cone like the 8mm does
* M1/M3 feed tray

I think that is it.

There are some drums that will only fit an M1 feed tray...and some drums/boxes that will only fit an M3.

I might be slightly off, but that really is the jist of it...not too much so we have a really cool system that can fire two great ammos.

Robert has some great 308 kits

ack...clarification...

M3 flash hider

308 shooting doesn't require the internal booster cone and the M3 flash hider doesn't require it.

Please let me know if I am incorrect!
