I spent most of my youth growing up in a small southern New Hampshire town (Hollis). It was mostly dairy farms and orchards at that time.
By the way, very little to see at Century. They have no shop or showroom. They will not let you past security unless you have a sponsor, no visitors! Now, if you are there to apply for a job, that may be a different story. You should call first to see if they are hiring! They learned long ago what happens if you let folks into the warehouse....

They had some problems with theft and mainly folks just made a huge mess and left it for the warehouse guys to "straighten up". Also, whenever a "non-employee" is in the warehouse, an employee has to be with them now. So, you loose the productivity of someone who is getting paid to be working!
Century is a big business, not a museum!

Understandable.

Are you going after one of their semi's or are you just waiting on Wise Lite? I am about to purchase my second MG42 receiver and as soon as Wise Lite starts selling to us I will buy a third from them. I have heard nothing but good things about their work, that coupled with the fact they are going to support us gun builders where BRP ditched us just seals the deal. :)

+1 for Wiselite. I have seen their work too (PPSH41) and was impressed. I don't think BRP has ditched us. This was posted on weaponeer's site from weaponeer .

I should have a buy posted at the end of the month for BRP receivers.

I'm also working on a buy for receiver halves (cheaper, but you need to weld them) and should have info at the end of the month as well for those.

I own both an FAL & Cetme from them Century & have had them for over 5 years put hundreds of rounds through them over 500-700 each never a problem with eighter one both shoot nice groups fit & finish is as expected in a military surplus rifle I checked and inspected the rifles before I purchased them they are what they are surplus military rifles if I had wanted a precision gun I would have assembled one myself I will be Building a M53 from a Sarco kit when MSG a member on the 1919 site starts producing the 80% & 100% receivers for them and I will buy a M53 Semi from Century also and expect it to be a surplus semi Beltfed as long as it shoots straight and functions without jamming thats all i ask for. My home brewed 1919a4 looks like a battle field pickup thats the way i built it & left it I call it Antiqued finish :D

I hope to have my hands on an example of the semi-auto Yugoslavian M53 as soon as they are available. By then the Colorado snow had better be gone off of the range! Perhaps I should locate a flame thrower?

I got to see the M53 at the SHOT show this weekend. I was told the one that I saw the prototype. I was not very impressed. But again it was not the production gun. If they improve on some of what I saw as potential problems it may be fine. My only concern is that we (all of us that have built working samples) have spent alot of time tweeking and adjusting. I just can't see how it can be thrown in to production with consistent results. I will get one. These are just my thoughts.

I hope they come in good sturdy box. Because I think they are going to wear them out sending them back for repair.

Did anybody at the show get to actually see the Century gun shoot, or was it just there looking pretty?

I don't really know about that show, were there even any range facilities available?

I was with Jbal at the Shot Show. It's the Gun Industry trade show. Century did not have it out for display so we asked about it. The first guy said they did not bring it. Then we asked another guy later and he took us in to their meeting room. He then opened a case and showed it to us without leting us touch it. Someone then waked in and he Quickly put it away. The biggest thing I noticed was the lack of indentations where the rail rivets go. It was completly flush minus the rivet heads. The fit and finish was poor but that might have been just a prototype thing.

Maybe Century should hire some of us to build them for Century. At least we generally know what we're doing and know how to make them shoot. :D

Either they are welding the rails in or you saw a non-functioning dummy prototype.

I think I will just build my own.

I think Propos has the right idea! The Germans had a program sort of like that, where they split up manufacturing to minimize damage from bombing raids.Maybe it would work here.Wouldn't ATFE love dozens of small builders spread out all over the country to watch over!!! ---bil

Shot Show has rules about what Vendors can display in there booths. Talking to Century folks who have worked "Shot" is is obvious they in particular are closely scrutinized. No surplus guns are supposed to be displayed, only new. Beltfed stuff belongs in the "Law Enforcement" area. That is why you were shown to a private area to view the M53. The gun you saw is a functional "works" gun. It has been fired plenty and will be shot more. These "works" guns tend to be a bit rough and get knocked around a bit. Things are "done" to them to see if they might break if dropped, stepped on etc... There true purpose is to ensure what arrives in the hands of the customer is a reliable firearm.

Yes I figured it was because of the original front shroud.

I guess the only thing to do now is wait and see!! We can all double-guess what they have got,but until the official 'unveiling',it is all just guesswork.Hopefully we will be seeing it soon! ---bil

I just ordered one today and they said that they are on back order. They said that they would call me when it was ready to ship. I'm hoping it will work good right out of the box, but with Centurys rep for making gun it's about a 50-50 chance. I don't know much about them but I guess I will learn real quick.
