Hmmmm. It's going to be a semi-auto gun, if it works at all. Where do I go from here then? I guess I need a replacement grip assembly. All assistance and input is appreciated. I'd rather not wind up with a piece of scrap metal.

I guess this is what I need. It's the BRP semi-auto assembly.

Hey John, Don't get discouraged now. You should dig into the old threads on this site regarding the necessary mods. required for a semi mg42. Before I started mine I think I read about every thread on this site. That circular cutout you made in the ejection port is for mounting the forward hooks on the semi gripsticks. I modded mine using the old weld on adapter from BRP. I see he doesn't offer that anymore. The new aluminum offerings are plug and play but kinda expensive. For my next builds I will recreate the adapter.
The whole idea is that the full auto fcg can't mount up as original. The BRP blueprints that you are working from should extend the grip slot forward in the receiver, so that once you attach the rear grip mount to the receiver, the front of an original F.A. gripstick will just fall out.
Dont forget to install the blocking bar in receiver before joining it to shroud. Another thing is wait until the receiver is welded to the shroud to drill your rail holes. Lining up the rails to the cam piece and the buffer in the rear is one of the more critical parts of this build.
These things take a bit of studying and understanding of there operation to build proficiently. I know you can do it. Remember. "Rome wasn't built in a day". Wally :D

I have the new trigger/grip assembly and the bolt extension ordered from BRP. If anyone needs a full auto trigger/grip assembly I have one for sale!

Received the SA bolt extension and the SA grip/trigger assembly from BRP. Both are beautifully done. Now I'll have to get cracking on fitting them up, etc. Still need to get a SA firing pin and I still have the M53 grip/trigger assembly for sale for $75.00. :)

Now that I have the extension I am wondering what other parts are needed for the bolt other than the "second pattern" firing pin for SA. I looked at RTG and he has several parts available so I need to know which ones I will need. BRP is currently out of the SA firing pins but, at any rate, they are more expensive than the stuff from RTG.
Input is appreciated. :)

John, You will need to remove the feed roller stud. It is easy to center drill the staking from the bottom. Then punch it out upward. BRP used to sell one with the firing pin hole in it and a roller brg. on top. Also the locking piece needs to be drilled so firing pin can pass through. BRP still has them already done. You will also need the charging handle attachment. Its an L-shaped piece. Goes in a milled recess on bottom of carrier. A nylon bushing is pressed into the rear of the ejector button to center the piring pin. Quite a bit of mods actually. I think the sear boss on the bottom of your bolt carrier will need to be cut down more also.

Thanks Wally. I guess the parts I need are these:

BRP is out of the parts kit right now but I already have the bolt extension.

John, rtg parts lists the firing pin and spring you need. As far as the ejector pusher picture you enclosed. You only need the brp plastic bushing insert. It presses inside the ejector button/pusher

I know I won't get to this stage for a good while yet but I'm wondering just what type of finish I should apply to the final build. Should I get it blued of paint it with a semi-gloss epoxy? Or something else?
Thanks in advance!

Ok, most of the build parts that rtg sells are from brp. Always call Brian and talk to him about things, Great Guy.

Finish - well they used to blue them. When I get around to finishing my MG42 I'm thinking about parking it Then using a dura coat finish that looks like a blued finish. They make it. This way I'll have a great finish over park. Rain Snow fingerprints whatever, I will not care. Ok, I'll really care just not as much.

Again it's up to what you want to do.

The dura coat sounds pretty good. Can you elaborate some? And where can I get it?
Thanks,
John

Found it on Amazon so I'll order some and check it out. The semi-gloss black sounds like the way to go.
