Something Special we have been working on...
We were told it couldn't be done but after 2 years of theory an testing the MG42/M53 is running 7.62x39. Ammo is about 1/3 the cost of 8mm or 762. We plan on doing a batch of these conversions later this year after we are fully tested. Enjoy

Verrrrrrry interesting.
Re: Something Special we have been working on...
That is pretty cool. What all has to be swapped out? I would imagine just a modified feed tray and new barrel.

Its a little more complex than that. Although we did not modify any springs to get the action to cycle the x39 has a lot less @ss. It does run standard 8mm links..

Re: Something Special we have been working on...
The bolt head woudn't need changed, since the base of the 7.62 x 39 cartridge is the same as the 8mm and 7.62 x 51. That leaves the barrel, which I would guess needed to be lighter, a smaller nozzle to help increase recoil, and the feed tray, which needs to be shorter. That leaves maybe the feed pawls if they don't align correctly on the shorter x 39 cartridge. It's great that they kept the original recoil spring. That simplifies a lot.
The next step I'm hoping for is for a .223 conversion. Beretta makes/made one, but it wasn't allowed to be exported from Italy. Getting a kit to be able to dimension it would be an easy way to produce a kit for that caliber.

223 is on our radar once we get past the x39 R&D. Basically just running the crap out of it to test reliability etc..
As for the bolt head, its the same. The extractor is modified. We plan on issuing our kit with a bolt head spaced to the barrels. So instead of swapping the extractor out you can just make up a whole bolt, I know whoever buys one has a spare bolt body, and drop the x39 assembly in. The goal was to keep the conversion to a true drop in and under 5min.

Excellent news. Be sure to let me know when you get either conversion ready to sell. I have a full auto MG42 myself.

Good Luck on this one. I know I'm interested and I'm sure a lot of other folks are also.

PS if anyone knows where we can get feed trays cheap, it would be greatly appreciated..

Could it convert to use a Yugo M53 belt linker to 7.62x39? Would it just need a new hopper?

Accessories are on the back burner till the conversions are done. Assault drums, loaders, etc. all will Be R&D projects down the line.

Sweet, I like it!

Are there any reasons this wouldn't work in semiauto? Have you done any testing in a semiauto 42?

Our plan is to make a lighter barrel for Semi auto function. Other than that, it should truly be a drop in conversion.

Considering the different flavors of semi-auto guns out there, tuning a conversion to a one size fits all solution might be difficult, to say the least. Tuning the nozzle size might also be needed.
