linked 80's yugo for the 42

Post by panaceabeachbum »

http://www.southernohiogun.com/ammo.html

its not listed on this page but these folks have some linked mid 80's production yugo 8mm in 250 rd cans for the 42, between $35 and $30 a can depending on qty. Some places get that much for the belt alone not to mention the ammo and the can

The ammo they have listed is 7.62 x 54R, It is yugo heavy ball (yellow tip) for the PK or PKM, and 1910 Maxim. It is a great price.

Call their 800 number and ask about the 8mm linked Yugo. This ammo is not listed on their website. Less than 5 cans is 37.95/can - 250 rounds on a belt, one belt per can. I asked, Tina said it was in ammo cans. Don't know whose ammo cans. You have to email the ammo waiver form first, let them get it, then you can call back and order. She said earlier on that they had 1,000 cans. That should be enough :wink:

The three cans I ordered arrived last night. They were knock off ?? U.S.G.I. cans and the ammo was belted on Browning links. First can had a few bent at the neck but other than that, they look good.

Ditto - I got my three cans today. US type ammo cans, pea green, very good shape. Ammo has a light oil/grease on it with disintigrating links. Can I take a wild guess that this would work on an MG3? It looks like the Yugo 53 top cover won't work for this belt. Anybody know for sure? :?: Would the feed tray and top cover for an MG3 be enough for this 8mm stuff :?:

It IS 8mm Romanian belted for the 1919. The side of your cans probably read something like this;

250 Romana
7,9mm Metak ca yhnbepbanhnm 3phom
M49 y yAahkactom penehmy
nny 8204-02

HEADSTAMP= nny 1982

Linked on a European made 30-06 clone for the 1919.

THESE WILL NOT FEED IN A MG42/MG1-3/ nor will they feed a Yugo....they are NOT PUSH THROUGH links. They MUST be pulled rearward as they have a shouldered neck on the link preventing them from moving forward.

Nice ammo for the 8mm 1919 crowd, you'll have to delink some GREASY 8mm and re-link for the 42's...

They also have VERY HARD PRIMERS. You will get 1 in 20ish that will have to be hit twice before they fire. (I just manually eject them, and use in the Bolt guns at a later date..)

just to clarify;

DO NOT BUY THIS for a MG42 type gun unless you want to DE-LINK, then RE-LINK.
Mess with the Bull and you'll get the HORNS!

Thanks Bullwinkle :roll: The little light went on in my head after I thought about those links - definitely not push through. Guess I need a belt loader now. :wink:

I thought it sounded to good to be true. I have 2 cans coming. the 1919 belted yugo ammo is pretty good, ran a few hundred rounds so far. if it is romanian it is not such
a good deal.

Definately NOT a good deal for 8mm unless you just want the links and ammo can....

Back when this stuff first came out it was about $75 for 1000rds...for belted 8mm for the 1919 it was a deal...at $30 a can thats $150 per thousand which is .308 pricing!

My apologies for directing you guys to this ammo, I called before posting this thread and was told it was from Yugo and linked for the m53, feel lucky you didnt order 5k rounds like I did. Ive run alot of this stuff the past few weeks in a 1919 and some relinked in a 42 semi and have not had any problems, but the primers are hard. On the good side this ammo would be a great excuse to build that 1919 semi you have always wanted.
