Contact the company direct also and talk to them about what looks like a blued finish.

Re: Looking for demilitarized MG42
I have all the cuts made on the receiver, except for the ones for the butt piece. I have decided to look for someone to do the rest of the work on the receiver for me. I just don't feel comfortable about my ability to get all the innards installed right. I want to wind up with a SA gun not a expensive paper weight.K98dkmauser wrote:so how is this going

Maybe but I think having someone with some experience with this type thing would be the best route to take.K98dkmauser wrote:youll do fine

Re: Looking for demilitarized MG42
Okay guys. I have about decided that the best route for me to take on this M53/MG42 re-build is to find someone with the experience and expertise to complete the receiver. I'm afraid that if I get it wrong any "fixes" will be very difficult to do. I DO NOT want to wind up with a expensive paper weight! As you can see from my posted photos, all the cuts have been made to the receiver except for the grooves for the butt. I have all the needed parts to complete the gun except for the SA firing pin and I can get that. Also, I am not in a big hurry to get it done. Any reasonable time frame (which we can decide on) will do.
So if you are interested send me a PM.
Thanks

Re: Looking for demilitarized MG42
As of today, 3-2-14, it's still in pieces. I am in the process of making a swap for a M53 cam for the MG42 one I have which will not fit properly. Next thing to do is get the bolt work done then on to fitting the other "innards".

Re: Looking for demilitarized MG42
Same today 5-29-14. No one seems to want to help on this. Is it THAT hugh of a undertaking to complete the receiver? I just want to be SURE the parts are installed right and that the head space measurement is correct. If I had the knowhow this thing would be on the range today.johnb593 wrote:As of today, 3-2-14, it's still in pieces. Re: Looking for demilitarized MG42
john593,
You may have to contact "Bob-Naess" over at Black-River-Militaria to build your SA42.
I would guess that the price will depend on what you have, and the costs for other required SA42-specific-parts......and if the SA42 is to be finish outside with blue or some type of spay-on coating....etc., etc. (?).
.....but with all that said, Bob does work on MG42s, and I have heard that he also will do SA42 builds........I just have not heard "prices"........and hopefully, you will post some "current-prices" after you talk with him.

Re: Looking for demilitarized MG42
I will need to locate a useable 7.92 barrel for this. It doesn't have to have the barrel extension. Any assistance will be appreciated.

Apex doesn't show 'em on their site (at least I couldn't find 'em). No problem though as I bought one from Brian at BRP.

ACHTUNG MEIN HERR! LOL I finally have some help on finishing my build. I just got a nice new barrel from Brian at BRP so hopefully the M53 will be ready to rock and roll in about 6-8 weeks. Fingers and toes crossed!
