My Mg42 kits........

Post by KABAR2 »

As promised here are the photos of the two kits Gun No. 1 is the one I'll start building... it' was the most complete, you see when I got these the two cut recievers were in a box with a couple of barrels and springs.... the rest of the parts were mixed into other parts lots.... so I ended up with one complete except for feed tray and top cover which I purchased off the internet .. good WWII German components.....I still need to pick up a set of rails for the kit as they got torched....... this will make a respectible firearm......will post more on kit two shortly....

One word...... SWEET......

That's a nice kit. I have not seen a bodt body marked like that. And one of the bolt rollers is marked also. Of course the whole kit is nice also. The stock marking is interesting and I'm waiting for other thoughts on that. The band rather than the 5 wire wrap on the stock is normally done in the field.
All in all that just a "SWEET" kit. Hope that the other one is as nice.
Note if you are going to make this kit into semi auto. PLEASE think of using a yugo bolt and saving the German bolt. And if you are going to simply replace the grip stick with a cnc cut grip stick with an ar15 fcg that's great. However if you are thinking of modifying that German grip stick please change your mind and pick up a yugo one and cut and weld it up. That way you save all the German FA stuff for another day or another owner at a later date.

Nice

I will probably go with your sugestion on replacing parts with yugo, I am looking at the AR15 sytem and the Fal also... but I will probably go with a modified Ar set up I am thinking of having a spring place I deal with make a heavyer spring with less windings then thin the tubes down on the hammer axis so everything will fit into the housing without having to butchering it.... we'll see how it goes..... I will post the other gun tomorrow I am on a company computer and it is trying to update I keep having to postpone it every ten min. and it is getting to be a pain.

Hello, Very nice indeed, I particularly like the late war bipod, the grip stick assembly, and the 'hvq' buttstock is really nice. Regards Jonathan.

Great kit, nice work with the detail/proofs in the pictures. You should give Brian at BRPguns.com a call he use to sell Mg42 (WWII issue) rails, sure M53 or Mg3 would work but for the same price why not keep it all original :D

I forgot to take a photo of the cocking lever it has a long number on it so I suspect it's post war....
the other gun this also has a number but that one also has a war time letter code.... I guess recycled....

I didn't bother putting the barrel with this one as it is a 7.62x51 STEYR ... I notice they recycled war time
trunnions on these.........

Also I think that you need just a few more posts before you can edit your posts. Like 3 maybe? Not sure but.

Yeah I noticed that both kits have that stamp... it looked more modern than the german stamps......

Funny thing is I have an 88/14 commission rifle that was sent to Turkey the gun is in excellent shootable condition what is interesting is that it somehow made it's way back to Germany probably in the 50's or 60's as it bears modern German proofs.... so it was reproofed when it came home.....
