Headspace new barrels

Post by 1fozziebear »

Hi,

I found the tutorial on how to headspace barrels. On new US production barrels I need some help. I have a WLA M53 that I would like to get 2 extra barrels properly headspaced and probably reamed. They seem pretty tight. Anyway, my local gunsmith has had my bolt, 3 barrels and extensions since June. I want to pull these from him but don't know who would do it. Is there anyone the forum recommends?

Thanks

Foz...,

You would need the gauges. There are a couple of companies that make/made them.

Once the barrels are installed on the square barrel extensions, headspacing an Mg42/m53 is really easy (see the tutorial) and yes you can buy the gauges in a lot of places, I think the cheapest I found was ebay; $25 for a field and no-go and you are good to go. Just to note I have bad luck trying to mix German bolts to yugo extensions and and German extensions to yugo bolts, may just be anecdotal though.
