Help to ID strange ammo can

Here is a can I picked up some time ago with a bunch of German stuff but not really sure on who made it. I have heard it was older German, Finnish or even Norwegian; does anybody know for sure?

It is the same height and width as a 34 ammo can but is about 1/3" - 1/2" less long:

What makes it odd (to me at least) is the insert on the inside that looks like it should stop belt tipping

I believe it is post war Israeli.

This is the standard Czech ammo can for the ZBvz37 heavy machine gun. Very similar to the German cans, but easily ID'ed from the insert.
